Misspoke my ass! She lied.
How could Hillary's campaign say that she misspoke about her trip to Bosnia when she has repeated such accounts on several occasions?

1- Nobody corrected her when she misspoke the first time?
2- How come she did not misspeak in a way that would discount her foreign policy experience?
3- The fact that she gave a very detailed description of how their plane was under sniper fire or that they had to duck and run to the cars, or the fact that greeting plans were scrapped...I mean how could you misspeak about all of these?

Americans are not stupid Hillary. Everybody at my work is laughing that her campaign is claiming that she misspoke about her trip to Bosnia.

This is just a f... lie gone wrong. What the hell does misspeak even mean in this case?

So can now Bush come out and say that his administration misspoke about the Iraq war intelligence? Or that they misremembered what they were told in the briefings?

This is just absurd.

11. "front lines"?? What? Are you stuck in some 1917 time warp?
We haven't had "front lines" since the 1950s. Certainly not in Bosnia and certainly not after the Dayton accords. It wasn't even a "combat zone" when she was there. There was only one combat death in the entire campaign. Hell, folks in Detroit in 1967 were in greater danger of being shot by a sniper!

I think he was posting on TPM.

Here is his latest!

Eat Here? Or at the Next Place?
By - March 25, 2008, 3:52PM

I've had people come up to me and say, "Hey, I really wish I could vote for you and Senator Clinton both." Well maybe they can. It would be a dream ticket. An unstoppable force.

I could win urban voters, voters with large earrings, voters who wear parachute pants, and Senator Clinton could win rural voters. I know that I'm ready to lead this country. For too long we've had presidents unable to avoid sniper fire.

Not this time.

Earlier in this campaign I railed against TPM for not digging into the Bosnia story a little. I begged them to put it on their front page. Well, what are you going to do? TPM could have made the big time with this story. CBS, NBC, NYTimes, everybody was running with the sniper story yesterday. Look, sometimes you try to be nice to people, you give them everything, and what do they do? They turn around and stab you in the back. Judas.

I know that in the past I've been critical of Senator Clinton. Well, I misspoke. I was sleep-deprived. I had just finished a marathon stand-up session at the Laughapalooza Festival in Topeka. Things come out wrong. I'm sorry. She's a good lady. She sort of doesn't "get" black people, but that's okay. We'll make a good team. Politics is all about "Necessary Roughness." We'll do well in the general, I know it.

Democrats, the choice is yours. 2008 is slipping away. We need to finally come together and put this brutal primary election behind us. It could be our year. Dream Ticket. Ready on Day One. Solutions. Sniper Fire. Eating Here or at the Next Place. Houseguest.

Senator Clinton, I admire you. You're a courageous, honorable, sort of weird lady. And today I'm proud to formally announce that I, Sinbad, hereby publicly offer you the opportunity to be my running mate. Let's make history, Senator. Take my hand and join me. Together we will change this nation, together we will - OH GOD, HEAD DOWN, HEAD DOWN, JESUS CHRIST THE SNIPERS ARE EVERYWH----

Sinbad/Clinton '08 - One is a comedian, the other is Sinbad

9. She really must think people are stupid.
She can say she was "mistaken" or she "misspoke" or she was sleep deprived or whatever. It doesn't change the fact that she made up the story. It's not as if she simply remembered the wrong country - it would certainly be understandable because she traveled a lot when she was First Lady - she "remembered" an event that never happened at all. Running across the tarmac while ducking sniper fire is VASTLY different than the pleasant greeting she received. Tired or not - how do you mistake sniper fire?

I just don't understand how anyone could believe it was an innocent mistake. If I did it, you wouldn't believe me and I wouldn't expect you to.

Imagine this thread:

BattyDem: "I created Democratic Underground in January 2001. I struggled financially for the first couple of years. I sold my car because I needed money for a server upgrade and then I had to take out a loan just to keep the site going."

Skinner: "No, I created Democratic Underground in January 2001 and I can prove it. You were not involved in any way and didn't even become a member until September 2003."

BattyDem: "You know, I say a lot of things — millions of words a day — so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement. I was sleep-deprived, and I misspoke. That happens. It proves I'm human."

Now I ask you ... would you believe that or would you call bullshit? Wouldn't your first question be, "How can you be mistaken about selling your car and getting a loan? You either did those things or you didn't."

I honestly think this will end up being the fatal blow to her campaign.

Note to Scooter & Hillary. You don't misspeak by making up situations that never happened.

Misspeaking is "I went to the beach 3 weeks ago on Saturday" when you actually went to the beach 3 weeks ago on Sunday.

Lying is saying I went to the beach 3 weeks ago on Sunday, when you went to the mountains.

Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 06:27 AM by Perry Logan
Surely the normal reader has noticed that Clintophobes wake up every morning, make up an accusation against the Clintons, and then spread it around. They ignore counter arguments and post threads in which they exchange their accusations--each and every one of which they totally believe. They natter about what a villain Hillary is.

They often display the ability to read Hillary's thoughts--which invariably sound like the thoughts of a comic-book villain, proving they were right about Hillary all along.

They badmouth Hillary in every way possible--taking the discourse at DU to ever-lower levels--and work themselves into frenzies of indignation, ignoring poll after poll which prove that most people like Hillary just fine. It's a fucking mental disorder.

tow, too boot.

I would remember clearly every detail, if my child's life was at stake--if it was just her, okay, but Chelsea was there. Come now.

She lied. More than once from the news clips I've seen and how can she completely misremember the story she recounted in her book.

No, what happened was someone in her camp foolishly told her to embellish, lie and exaggerate about her "foreign" endeavors to boost her credibility--she seems to have misremembered her role in Ireland and the S-Chip program too.

Have you ever recalled an event and "mistakenly" put in a detail about your life being in danger? :eyes:

"Misremember" means getting a few details wrong when telling a story. It does not mean vividly recalling the details of something that never happened - that would be a lie or a delusion. Take your pick.

63. In all fairness, Ndambi
Perry is correct that it is not a lie - if she really remembers it as told.

Neither scenario is really good, though, huh?

So either she is lying - or conjuring up images of stuff that never happened. Not just a small modification to the actual events. Which does not really speak well for her mental fortitude.
A president that is prone to have daydreams trump reality or a president that is blatantly lying about some rather important stuff?

Ok, it would only be 1 for 2 on the Bush scale - but still...

Just a blatant attempt to garner some points for being tough and battle-tested. And it bit her on the ass bigtime.

This is no misstatement. This is called a LIE. L-I-E.

66. Her story is a complete fabrication cleverly couched in her desire to be a foreign policy wonk.
Unfortunately, it wasn't true, it didn't work, and now people are laughing at her like she is the funniest thing since Charlie Chaplin.

It's over for her.
Her career is finished in politics.
She won't even be re-elected to the Senate in 2012.
