Share your funniest/most dangerous/scariest sleep deprived moment.
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 02:04 PM by burythehatchet

For me it was this morning. I am sleep deprived. I was driving in to work on GA400 northbound when a MARTA train (runs between the north and southbound lanes) jumped the tracks!!

Although I was sleep deprived I quickly managed to climb out onto the roof of my Honda coupe, which is not easy when you're driving 145 MPH, and managed to veer over towards the train, skateboard style.

I leaped from my car onto the train and ran on the roof of the rain towards the front. There, I found the engineer laying on the ground. I gave him CPR and managed to revive him. He was unable to assist but quickly told me about the control panel for the train. Within minutes I had managed to bring the train to a full stop.

Luckily, I stopped the train precisely at the next scheduled stop. The passengers all got to their destinations on time.

What a morning. I hope I can get some shut-eye tonight.

1. When my son was first born, I used to wake up thinking I was still holding him
When I had actually put him back in his crib. I'd open my eyes, look around and say, "Where did he go?"

4. That's scary. As a divorced dad, when my son was very small
he would stay with me for the weekend. Some weekends he wasn't with me. Once in a while I would wake up in the middle of the night and not remember whether he was with me or not. A mad sprint to his room was all I could do for confirmation. :scared:

scuffling their hooves on the concrete porch. Their musk is overwhelming. They upset the bird feed container and snort as they gorge on the seeds. In my underwear I chase them with a Louisville Slugger until the big one turns around and rushes me. I am soon back on the couch, I hope the birds can make do for a day. (Last night)(True)

My sleep deprived moment, when I went to the bank to make a deposit. Four, no Five huge thugs were in front of me at the window. They each, then pulled a gun...no a Bazooka out of a small paper sacks and proceeded to rob the bank.

To say the least I was frightened, but didn't let the fear overtake me. I pulled the most impressive CHUCK NORIS moves you could ever imagine. In one round-house kick, the thugs crumpled to the ground like large sacks of potatoes. I was given the key to my city, and proclaimed the day for me. DearAbby Day! I was a hero in my community.

By the way, the deposit was late because of the robbery, I was charged $20 for overdraft. I tried to explain it to the bank with the above story...needless to say, I had to pay the fee. :evilfrown:

that sucked.

12. We were flying over the Himalayas in this old AeroFlot tub
when we his a flock of geese--GEESE--at 30,000 feet.

One of the engines bladed out and the pilot was unfortunately torn into pieces. I had had a complimentary ultralight lesson back in '85, so I took the controls and tried to fly the plane. Unfortunately, the plane wasn't flying too well, and soon we got low enough to be stuck in the middle of a blizzard. Now, storms in that part of the world are pretty harrowing.

The plane was getting lower and lower, and suddenly someone shouted "LOOK OUT!" and before we knew it we had flown into the side of a mountain. Some people said it was K-2, but I'm not so sure. Anyway, all 800 passengers were safe, including the Dalai Lama and the entire Moscow Symphony Orchestra. I decided that we should stay in the plane for shelter that night. The next morning, when the storm cleared, we were only 100 feet from a Finnish mountaineering base camp!

Now my brother in law is Finnish, so I managed to explain to them what had happened. Fortunately they told us we were only two and a half miles from a Pakistani resort and ski lodge, so I roped all the passengers into teams of 10, and with the help of the crash axe from the plane and some spare cardboard, we all got there by breakfast. Boy, those pancakes sure tasted good!

The Russian government wants me to go back to get some kind of medal in this ceremony next month, but I dunno if I can make it. I mean, I'm just so over that kind of thing, ya know?

17. Nah, it was more like the Ritz-Carlton Islamabad
The place was really swanky. They let us stay there free for a week. I wanted to pay them their rate of $700 a night--God knows I could have easily afforded it--but the management wouldn't hear of it. They said just having me there was payment enough.

And you should have seen the DELIGHT on the faces of those orphans to see all that good food! They just looked so precious! And to think the Emir of Dubai adopted every last one of them! All 37!

I think I'll take the Emir up on that offer to borrow his yacht next summer...

15. I once went 52 hours without sleep
Within that time I smoked herb, got drunk and dropped acid. I was still able to act and sing in a musical play and remembered all my lines. Didn't misremember anything.

16. When I was in college, I worked on another student's film for 72 hours straight without sleep
As I was driving home, I suddenly couldn't figure out what city I was in, or what year it was. I kept driving, looking for landmarks that would let me know where and when I was. After a minute, I suddenly "knew" that I had been transported back in the worst period of my life, which occurred six years earlier and in a different state. I got really depressed, knowing what I was going to have to live through, and how long it would take to live through it. After a couple more minutes of driving, I recognized a building, and "knew" I had been transported back to the best part of my life - - my senior year in college. I was flooded with relief for the rest of the drive home, which probably took another seven minutes.

I was a miracle I didn't kill somebody with my car - - or kill myself.
