Dean to be on HardTalk BBC today.....video is up.
Edited on Wed May-12-04 10:20 AM by madfloridian
"Wednesday 12th May, Governor Howard Dean, former US Presidential election candidate with Tim Sebastian
For the first few weeks of 2004, Governor Howard Dean was the leading Democratic candidate for the US Presidential Elections in November. He was ahead in the opinion polls and was profiled in the media around the world. Then it all went wrong. He dropped out of the race in February after spending millions of dollars on his campaign but failing to win a single primary or caucus.Howard Dean talks to Tim Sebastian about that period and how he felt about withdrawing his candidacy. He also discusses the current events in Iraq, explaining why he feels the prestige of the United States has been destroyed by the war in Iraq and why he believes the Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld must resign."

It looks like we have to pay to stream the video. Also what time is here.
HARDtalk is broadcast globally on BBC World each weekday at 0330 GMT, repeated at 0830, 1130, 1530, 1830 and 2330 GMT.

4. Tough tough interview, but he is doing fine.
Tough interviewer. Dean continues to stand up for Kerry against the reporter's onslaught. Tell me about this reporter. They are fair questions, but hard ones.

5. Tim Sebastian is fantastic
Occasionally he can be a bit overbearing, or extremely pedantic which can piss people off; but personally I think that he's excellent at either highlighting someone's flaws or revealing the depths of their convictions. There was a time in the run-up to the war where he basically went through the entire cast from the AEI & Heritage Foundation demolishing them one by one.

7. Well, he surely went after Dean's depth of conviction.
It was painful at times. Dean stood his ground, but it was hard to watch. Our country is in such trouble there are no options for him now, but he did hit him hard.
Yes, he is a good interviewer.

11. I watched it again, and I have a question.
Is he the sort who plays Devil's advocate a lot? He was really being tough, trying to get Dean to "blame" Blair. Dean said he was "disappointed" in Blair, but blamed Bush.
He kept on about Kerry, and Dean finally said he would not help him "badmouth" Kerry. The guy kept on.
At first viewing I thought he was defending Bush and Blair, but 2nd viewing made me wonder. Talk about pinning someone to the wall, but Dean survived it.
Does he do this to those on both "sides" of the issues?

12. Yeah -- 100% devils advocate
I like it because it tends to give me a greater sense of respect for people who survive a grilling from him.

FWIW, the Beeb did another 30 minute interview with Dean -- this time with Mark Lawson (softball -- hosts arts programs) which is airing later this week. BBC2's Newsnight had a 5 min. clip in tonight's show if you're interested:

(then "Latest Programme") -- I'd say it was about 20 mins in.

13. Could you send me a PM when it airs later this week?
I would appreciate it.
I would say Dean survived. Thanks for the response.

14. Will air May 26 on BBC 4.
I listened to the snip, and he really went after Bush and Blair. I was quite surprised.
