Kerry could connect with the nation now
not just on key issues, but in overall leadership - as a compass to guide us back to who we are as a people. Our country is going through a horrible time of doubt, shame, and terror. No one has come forward with an honest message of hope - or simply to say that our country can be and will be whole again.

I have a feeling that more than anything right now, the nation needs to hear the message contained in "I met a man named Franco," by DU'er, Stephanie (link below). She says it much better than I -

1. Thanks for this, you should send it to the campaign.
Thank you for posting it.

I will say that to every right winger I know.

2. He gave a great speech today in Jacksonville
He drew a large crowd here, and this is REPUG country.

3. It sounds like what you really want
is someone like Dennis Kucinich. Its too late for that but I'm voting for him in my primary this month. Hopefully Kerry gets the idea that he needs to present an alternative vision to Bush besides "staying the course."

4. Nice idea, but 'fraid not
The psychology of the electorate is SO conflicted and volatile that he'd be as likely to provoke displaced rage as respect and admiration.

6. I have confidence in Kerry
He is eloquent, in touch (whether the press admits it or not), and he is a leader. He can do this.

7. I tend to agree
but I also think some of the forces at work are out of the realm of eloquence, leadership and empathy.

However, I'm dispirited myself so maybe I'm biased!!

9. I tend to agree with you, also
And I have been feeling dispirited too. We are a strong, courageous country but we are in great need right now. Reading that post about Franko reminded me of why I loved this country so much, and why recent events have been so painful. It gave me hope.

8. I'd do it
It seems to me that the people that are most likely to be outraged are the people who won't be voting for Kerry anyway.
