I seriously think it could happen and it would seriously
shake things up.

By the way, I would still vote for Kerry.

Anyone else thought of this?

1. It would be a VERY close 3 way election if that happened
He would take almost all the middle of the road vote and all the pissed off Republicans.

2. Bush would win a LANDSLIDE
Edited on Tue May-11-04 10:14 PM by troublemaker
Bush is rock-solid at about 40%. That's the number of bust-out nazis and jesus freaks. McCain would draw primarily from Kerry.

(Bear in mind that 3-way races are still winner-take-all in the Electoral College)

5. This would cause major pain for the republicans
McCain needs to wise up. He will never amount to much in the Republican party. The shrubs plan to turn the office of the President into a family dynasty.

He should have held shrub's feet to the fire regarding the war with Iraq. As a war veteran, he knew the potential problems. Yet he went along heedlessly, voicing total support for shrub.

I wouldn't vote for him, even if he ran as an independent. I have lost most of the respect I did have for him. I still do have some respect for him as a former POW.

Kerry also voted in favor of action against Iraq, but at least he did spell out some reservations and guidelines. I am not pleased, but Dean lost the nomination.

In any case, if McCain ran as an independent, it might strike a mortal wound into the Republican party. It would split the party with the secular conservatives going to McCain and the religious ones to shrub. It might give rise to a third party and marginalize the Republicans.

Kerry would comfortably win the election with the Republican vote split and the conflicts that would result from within the Republican party. In fact, I would expect a landslide victory for Kerry who might end up winning every last electoral vote in such a scenario.

McCain knows the damage it would cause to the Republican party were he to run as an independent. I am not certain he has the courage to break from the party with an independent candidacy as a result.

6. never
after all george did to him and the country, McCain STILL pimped for that texass bastard.
he may talk good, but he fails on actions.
IF he was a real patriot, he'd be calling for an impeachment. DAMMIT!

7. Be Careful What You Wish For!
It sure would be interesting, but completely unpredictable.

The Fundies hate McCain, but he is a fiscal hawk, & would take conservatives who vote on economics.

I think he would also pull a HUGE amount of military voters, especially the unhappy Iraqi war voters. This could hurt Kerry & Bush.

I think he would get many Independents who hate BOTH parties, & see McCain as a Reformer.

Anyway, he will not run as an Independent. I think he came to grips with the fact that he will never be Prez 4 years ago.

8. I see him involved somehow with Kerry
-- perhaps a canbinet position, or possibly even as VP --

He won't run as a Democrat, but he would likely run as a Republican on the Democratic ticket.

I am not saying he is my choice for VP, but I will go as far as saying that McCain is an honorable man, and despite core policy disagreements, I know tha his decisions would be made for he benefit of the country, and not for the benefit of his contributors, and self.

Considering the avalanche of bad and embarrassing news surround Bushco these days, who knows what the next few months will do.

Baloney. Remember the Keating Five? And talk about flip flopping.Did you hear him today? I have never seem anybody talk so much out of both sides of his mouth,.Depending on who was interviewing ,he slanted his opinions regarding the right or wrong of the abuse or the berg killing.Check out his voting record, The man is a publicity seeking opportunist. He makes me sick.

9. Not this year, please
Like Nader, he would draw votes from Kerry, too.

I have a friend whose scenario is Bush dumping Cheney and taking McCain as his VP -- thus giving people uncertain about Bush a reason to keep voting Republican. McCain would only have to hold his nose for 4 years before running for prez.
