Bush staffers check undershirts!!- that's Democracy!
At the front gates, a campaign staffer stopped people wearing two layers of shirts or sweaters, asking them to lift up the second layer and reveal the shirt underneath. She said she was checking for anyone concealing an anti-Bush shirt and planning to make a scene during the president's speech.

Anyone found with an anti-Bush shirt, she said, would immediately be
escorted back to their car.

One heckler briefly interrupted Bush, but he was shouted down by the crowd and security quickly removed him from the audience. Security was extraordinarily tight, with dozens of police officers on the premises. Metropolitan Parkway was shut down from Utica to Schoenherr roads for about two hours, until the president left to spend the night at an Oakland County hotel.
