Name your running mate now, Democrats urge Kerry
Article in the right wing UK Sunday Telegraph. Make of this what you will.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/05/09/wus09.xml&sSheet=/portal/2004/05/09/ixportal.html&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=48878

Senior aides anxious to pep up John Kerry's lacklustre presidential campaign are urging the Massachusetts senator to choose a well-known vice-president, and to make his selection early.

Vice-presidential candidates are normally chosen near the time of the party conventions in late summer, but Democrats are concerned that Mr Kerry has failed to exploit one of the toughest periods of President George W Bush's presidency.

While the president's problems over Iraq have multiplied, culminating in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, Mr Kerry's campaign has been criticised for lacking passion, charisma and momentum.

"He's not made any headway," said one senior Democrat. "And he's unlikely to get a better wind than this."

1. Interesting info in the article, if true!
That 4 candidates have been thoroughly screened:

Clark, Edwards, Gephardt, & Richardson.

John Edwards is not impressed with the Kerry campaign.

8. Regarding Edwards,
The article stated:

"John Edwards, the senator for South Carolina who came closest to defeating Mr Kerry in the candidates' contest and is among the favourites to be vice-president, has privately voiced doubts about the effectiveness of Mr Kerry's campaign."

But I got this e-mail from the Edwards camp:

Dear Friend,
First and foremost, I want to thank every single one of my supporters again for all that you did for my campaign. Because of your support, we were able to wage a strong campaign about the important issues facing our country today. I was so inspired by the people I met on the campaign trail and during the course of the campaign, I learned time and time again that the American people are hungry for change.

I want to keep fighting for this change and to work to end the two Americas in our country today - one for those at the top who get everything they want, and the other for everybody else who struggles just to get by. To that end, I have launched the "One America Committee," which will allow me to campaign for Democratic candidates across the country. For the sake of my children and grandchildren, I want to do everything I can to elect John Kerry to the White House and to elect more Democrats at every level of the party. The "One America Committee" will play a major role in these efforts.

I have already campaigned for John Kerry and other Democrats in North Dakota, Washington, and Florida, and I will continue to crisscross the country to campaign for Democratic incumbents and candidates.

To learn more about the One America Committee, please visit our Web site. Thank you again for all that you have done and all of your support. I look forward to working with you more in the future so that together, we can help change America.

Sincerely,

John Edwards

11. If he HAS expressed doubts privately, isn't he agreeing with many DUers?
I've seen a lot of posts here who have concerns about how the Kerry campaign is going, that he hasn't made enough of his opportunities to date, etc. I don't see that as a bad thing--to solve problems, you first have to identify them. And if there are problems, it is not too late to solve them.

7. "WE" didn't goof...................
the DNC and corporate media turned him into a screaming, raving lunatic; on purpose. In a fair contest I believe Dean's message would have resonated well with the American public. We'll never know because higher powers didn't want someone who was going to upset the apple cart as much as Dean would.
At least he succeded in restoring the Democratic Party's backbone, but it seems as if that restoration is now being squandered as well. Kerry must connect better with the public and speak a little more loudly and forcefully against the neocons that are destroying our country.

14. I disagree
I think his poorly run campaign lost him Iowa and New Hampshire, and as a result of our current primary system lost him the nomination as well.

4. I did warn that the article is from a RW source
But the funny thing is, the article below is from a liberal source and worryingly it voices many of the same concerns about Kerry's campaign. The UK press seems to have fallen out of love with Kerry today. :-(

12. "...anxious to pep up John Kerry's lacklustre presidential campaign..."
Objection, assumed facts not in evidence.

Nothing like a bunch of anonymous sources collected by a hack paper like the Telegraph to make a shaky point.
