Senior Democrats fear suspicions that Obama shares Pastor's views will make him unelectable
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 02:19 PM by pathansen
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/22/uselections2008.barackobama

“The latest poll in Pennsylvania by Public Policy Polling puts Clinton on 56% and Obama on 30%. The same polling organisation showed her having overtaken Obama in North Carolina, which is also still to hold its primary: she has 43% to his 42%.”

“But it goes further than that. The danger for Obama is not just that he could lose badly in Pennsylvania but that senior Democrats will wonder whether the loss of white votes could cost him the November general election.”

“A theme that emerges from the bars and diners of white Philadelphia is suspicion that Obama's failure to disown Wright and his presence in his church for almost two decade suggests that he himself is secretly resentful towards white people. A stray comment during an interview may have helped contribute to that suspicion when he referred to his grandmother, who had voiced her concern about being mugged by a black person, as a "typical white person".”

“John Fernandez, a chiropractor, said Obama must have known what Wright was preaching. "How can you be that tight and not know or share some of those opinions? I was leaning toward him a little bit, but that took it over the edge," Fernandez said, hollering to be heard over the din of the bar and televised basketball game. "You got to go to another church, or you share those opinions."

25. Thankfully there are enough good DUers that don't follow some of the Obama supporter's
borg strategy so that people have the opportunity to view OPs that are adding information into the discussion.

I will try to keep genuine and respectful posts kicked *particularly* if I see this "let it sink" crap.

5. Here is what pisses me off about the whole thing
In the 20 years Wright only went off on these tangents a handfull of times.
The MSM makes it sound like every fucking week he preached this shit to his congregation.

Why do the dems and Obama allow the "current wisdom" about this issue be written by the RWing Thug Media and their talking whores?

Why are not our talking points that he didnt preach like this everyweek???
Why do the people with power to be heard... (not me or us little folk) not pound this fact into the current wisdom of the situation.
I have never understood why our media talking heads dont say the few words that would change what mainstream thought is.

That is 3what pisses me off the most thru these years of bush hell.

7. The god damn media are bringing Obama down just like they did Howard Dean.
He's not beholden to the big money interests so they have to cut him off at the knees. When America most needs the kind of leadership Obama can provide, the powers that be are once again going to give us a choice between two corporate politicians who will do their bidding. I for one am not playing their game this time. I'll go Nader or McKinney or just leave this fucking country.

11. Don't worry, this shall pass
no matter what the MSM says, the Politico put it in the right perspective: Hillary has NO chance of winning the nomination. It is just a fantasy game for the MSM to keep this story alive. The truth is that it will be Barack Obama vs. Juan McSpain.

19. Obama is a Black man who was raised in America which means he almost certainly agrees
that the American government and the American majority have not always treated minorities fairly. The irrational fear that is unspoken is that somehow if a minority ascends to power, that minority will "return the favor." The truth is that a minority like Obama who has succeeded against the stereotypes and the odds against him will be far more sensitive to ensuring that EVERYONE is treated fairly including that paranoid majority that insists on avoiding any conversation about the sins of the majority's past.

I'm trying to figure out what church Obama should have gone to because unless it was a predominately white church he would encounter the same things. The conclusion to all of this is that the United States has not matured to the point where it is willing to elect a non-white president. If that's the case then people should be honest enough to say it instead of trying to paint the minority candidate as a racist.

49. If Obama gets 20-30% of the white vote in PA this will happen
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 11:53 PM by jackson_dem
Those are Jesse Jackson numbers and we know why he wasn't put on the ticket as veep. Obama is at 23% among PA whites and 30% in NC in the latest polls, and both are before his recent racial remark about "typical whites."

Polling shows Obama would lose 20% of white Democrats, and this number was before pastorgate and his recent racial remark. For all we know it could be 25-30% now.

As to why this is happening, his white vote began dropping after Wisconsin. He got 34% in ohio (27% among Ohio Dems but rethugs and other ringers raised his number), 44% in Texas (only 37% among white Democrats, again rethugs helped him), and only 21% in Mississippi. He was polling at 29% among Pennsylvania whites before pastorgate. Pastorgate and his subsequent racial remark just made things worse for him.

Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 04:02 PM by The Night Owl
The problem with the Obamas is not that they harbor secret resentment of whites. The Obamas don't harbor secret resentment of whites. The problem with the Obamas is that they lack experience on the national stage and that lack of experience makes them prone to making huge blunders. Barack Obama should take the experience he has gained from this current presidential campaign and apply it in 4 or 8 years.
