Rather than see how well they can destroy one another.
Those who are somehow undecided between the 2 Democratic candidates could compare how they stack up against the Republican nominee. Then we could see and compare their actual stances and policies rather than having to scrape the dirt or perceived dirt from our tv or computer screens from the personal attacks. I more than half suspect that much of the vitriol between Clinton and Obama is being stirred up by the right and many of us Democrats take the bait and swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
But as Will Rogers said, "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat". Here at a time when we have the opportunity to marginalize the Republican Party and put them down for the count we seem determined to show the American people how we can piss away a great victory. Can you imagine the strides that could be made by a Democratic president with a Democratic congress and how much good we could do for this country?
The next president will either be a Democrat or John McCain. That person will nominate justices to the Supreme Court as well as many other judges. That person will determine the direction in which this country moves and if it is McCain and the Democrats do not have veto proof majorities in congress, then we already know how that will work out. If the candidate I support does not win the nomination, I am not willing to bite my nose off to spite my face. We cannot all get exactly what we want and I believe that either of our candidates is far, far superior to McCain. I want a Democrat to be the next president and if I do not support our nominee and do what I can to see that person is elected, then I will feel like I have blood on my hands if McCain is elected. How could I ever explain to my children and grandchildren that I refused to do all I could to see a Democrat elected to the presidency in 2008?
So support your candidate by all means, but cutting down the candidate you do not support does not make your choice taller--it just makes you appear petty and childish and your candidate, too, if they participate in the nonsense. Our candidates are not paragons of perfection or virtue--they are human, but they are light years better than McCain. Don't glory in winning the battle that loses the war. We need to keep our eyes on the prize.
