To the Nobody but Dean people
We go off to fight the Great Enemy. You swore, once, that you would stand by our side and aid us in our time of greatest need. As you now desire to flee and hide in your mountains when war is met, I curse you. May you never forget that you failed to come to our aid, and either be in victory or defeat, you shall never forget for all time, nor shall any others, that of all our greatest warriors, you were faithless and disloyal. If we fall on the field that we shall soon meet our foe on, then you will next be hunted down and destroyed, and in that moment you will remember that it was your disloyalty that caused your demise. If we should win, then you will gain none of the fruits of our victory, for it will be the victory that the faithful fought for and earned by blood, tears, toil, and sweat, and by failing to fight when you were most needed, you deserve none of what may be won.

As the Roman general did to the emissary of the Greek king, I draw a circle around you with my sword. And as that general said to the emissary, do not step out of the circle until you make your decision.

2. Who cares?
So we'll lose a few dozen votes from the fanatical NBD crowd. Don't even pay attention to their attempts at electoral blackmail. Hopefully, Clark will be nominated and they'll all get tombstoned.

3. It just goes to show....
That the Unity that Dean said that he was brining to the party only applies if he wins.

That's fine. The more I find out about what the Democratic party is morphing into I feel more and more as an outsider as a life long liberal.

I remember when the supporters of the other eight candidates were being verbally abused on a daily basis of being Anti-ABB. Looks as though what was good for the goose isn't good for the other goose in the same flock.

I find this to be very strange.

4. that's bullshit... the vast majority of us are ABB
and anyone who tries to make it look otherwise is most likely sowing discontent to suit their own purposes.

8. Lisa...
I know that. All of us know that. We're not talking about the average Dean supporter, who is undoubtedly a decent, valued Democrat. It's the handful of people who claim that they'll take their ball and go home if Dean isn't the nominee.

My personal feeling is that their numbers are insignificant. Believe me, all REAL Democrats will come together just fine after the primaries, no matter who the nominee is.

11. Why single them out?
I've actually heard AB-my canidate more from supporters of another candidate around here. But I never in a zillion years would insult the vast majority of that candidate's supporters by posting a thread like this.

14. How on earth
am i insulting the "vast majority" of a candidate's supporters?

I'm talking about the current, self-identified NBD people who've made a point of making their position known here.

self-identified

yadda yadda yadda

No doubt, you've been focused on "NBD" - but trust me, the others are there.

How about this novel approach -

If this concerns you, post a thread saying, please everyone thinking it's their candidate or nobody, support the Democratic nominee, because...

Why, this might actually promote unity! Something constructive! Shocking!

I've seen exactly ONE person here claim anybody but Dean. Personally, I wish he'd be banned. I've seen at least FIVE say NOBODY but Dean.

They're using it as their sigline now, btw.

Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 03:30 AM by Woodstock
the guy's got THOUSANDS of supporters - the VAST MAJORITY of whom are solid Democrats - and you want to call out 5

and again, I've personally run across MORE THAN 5!!! of a certain candidate who have said the same

but I'll be damned if I'm going to post a thread singling them out

this is serious business - I sure wish people would start treating it that way

20. I think you misunderstand....
I've already said that I'm fully aware that the vast majority of Dean supporters are good, decent, loyal Democrats.

I'm not starting ANY war. I've never even posted ONE negative comment about ANY candidate. I've said repeatedly that I will support the eventual nominee.

But I HAVE seen a number of people (and yes, I know it's a SMALL number) in recent days claim to be in the NBD camp.

I did not start this thread. I'm not starting anything. Believe it or not, I am NOT against Howard Dean. I'm FOR Wesley Clark.

Get real. I was a Democrat long before I knew who Dean was. If some people are foolish enough to say they are for Dean or nothing, then one would be just as foolish to make the generalization that all Dean supporters felt that way.

12. Please let me interrupt this Renaissance Fest...
...put down my leather mug, peel off these tights (they weren't my own, but someone insisted I wear them) and comment.

I've often seen Democrats, before the primaries, doing things like this. Arguing. Claiming they'll walk off if Candidate A isn't chosen, or they'll set fires to trashcans if Candidate B doesn't get the nod. This process is highly amusing, but it also has a beneficial feature.

At least we're debating about who we want as our candidate. The Republicans don't have a chance to do that. It also suggests that whoever gets through the primary process will be proving their ideas are what the party wants, instead of being foisted on them from above.

It's natural that a candidate will insist that he is the one who can most effectively defeat his opponent. (In the Presidential race it's almost certain that the party in power will have picked its opponent.) But in the end, those candidates all work for the party. And this year, all the candidates agree that defeating Bush is of prime urgency.

So, could we call a halt to the in-fighting until we get at least a few primaries out of the way?

Well, gotta get back to the RenFest; there's some goon coming that insists that I buy a hand-made mandolin.

19. The NBD people...
are the most pragmatic dems of all, they may speak NBD but they are ABB first and foremost. Dean has electrified the process at a time when people like the "terminator" can get elected just for appearing like a political novice. I'm ABL (anybody but Lieberman) but you can bet your everloving last devalued dollar that I will vote for him if he is chosen to go against bush, and I have no doubt so would the NBD crowd, so drop this nonsense already!

Clark's resume puts everyone else's to shame.

That being said, I have not once in my years here at DU posted a derogatory comment about any of the Dem candidates. Why must you do it constantly?

If Dean's the nominee, I'll happily vote for him.

btw.... For a four-month old Democrat, Clark's sure become a lot more liberal than Dean.

25. about Clark's resume
Clark's resume puts everyone else's to shame.

i'd be a heck of a lot more impressed if Clark's resume included running for office and winning at least once. if Clark's resume had more than 3 months as a democrat, and did not contain voting for Nixon and fundraising for the GOP. if it contained activism to end the use of landmines, cluster bombs, and depleted uranium.

don't tell me the resume of this democrat-of-convenience Clark puts Dean or Kerry to shame. Dean is a medical doctor and has never lost an election. Kerry supporters can answer for themselves, but imho Clark has nothing over Kerry either. hard as it may be for you to understand, some of us just aren't blinded by a uniform and stars.

26. and it's insulting
to imply that I'm "blinded by a uniform and stars".

I don't understand why so many Dean supporters question the mnotives of Clark supporters. I support Clark because he's liberal (more liberal than Dean), brilliant, honest, accomplished, and has shown a great willingness to attack Bush on issues of major importance to me.

His uniform is not the reason I support him. I do however, acknowledge that it aids him a great deal. And well it should - he's sacrificed more for this country than you or I ever will.

23. don't single out Dean supporters
You swore, once, that you would stand by our side

i didn't swear anything of the sort. i believe in Howard Dean; i don't believe in ABB, and never have. ABB includes Sharpton, LaRouche, Lieberman, as well as Clark.

and don't single out Dean supporters. there have been plenty of statements on this very forum from Clark people saying they would never support Dean even if he gets the dem nomination. it's funny how Clark supporters complain about Dean saying his people are not transferrable, yet they overlook the fact that Clark and the other candidates are implicitly saying the same thing when they spew that b.s. about Dean being "unelectable" - that their own people are not transferrable should Dean be nominated.

24. To the Stop Dean/ABD People
I support no one but Dean through the primary campaign. During this period of time, any other candidate means nothing to me.

I lost respect for all the other candidates, with the possible exception of DK and Sharpton.

In the NH debate, all of the candidates had a chance to stand up against GW Bush, when asked if they thought Dean could win in the GE.

Granted, the question sucked, but they way the Dems handled it was shitty. Only Kucinich redeemed himself when he went after the Koppel.

Second, when Dean asked the other Dems to condemn the Osama ad, there was a mighty silence, broken only by Sharpton (rather late, but better than not at all).

So...DK and Sharpton, despite all else, earned my respect. All the other candidates can kiss my keister, twice, and with great passion.

But, when the GE comes along, if Dean is not the Democratic party nominee, then I will vote for the Dem.

I repeat, I will vote for any Dem, even Lieberman, over Bush.

I expected a heated primary fight, but the complete hypocrisy involved in blasting Dean supporters for being partisan and "non-transferable" after we have had to deal with but this "Stop Dean" campaign, this ABD bullshit, well...it's inexcusable.

I'm only one voice, and I don't presume to speak for any others, but anyone who knows statistics knows that my one voice does represent hundreds of others, perhaps thousands. Perhaps more.

If you expect us to stay involved with the Dem party after 2004, y'all had better think long and hard about what you say about Howard Dean, because when you say you want to stop Dean, we understand it as you want to stop US.
