Hillary Clinton has been regaling supporters on the campaign trail with hair-raising tales of a trip she made to Bosnia in March 1996. In her retelling, she was sent to places that her husband, President Clinton, could not go because they were "too dangerous." When her account was challenged by one of her traveling companions, the comedian Sinbad, she upped the ante and injected even more drama into the story. In a speech earlier this week, she talked about "landing under sniper fire" and running for safety with "our heads down."

There are numerous problems with Clinton's version of events...

Probably she was made to feel like she was in danger as those around her were zealous to keep her safe. Indeed there was no "ceremony", as usually there would be music and a more official welcome for a foreign dignitory. Maybe she embellished a bit, but not any more than many others would do in telling a story. Flying in would be fairly safe, but come on, it is not like flying in the states, she could have had a shell launched at her plane, at least more possible than what she might be used to.

LOL, you won't see me complimenting her as a candidate often, I do not care for her. But there are much more serious criticisms to be made.

Once upon a time, if I had politically like-minded co-workers in the office, I was always the one to provide them with links to articles, videos, etc. Today, there are 2 other strong Obama supporters in my office, and they watch CNN & MSNBC as religiously as I do, know everything already that I glean from here and every other source, and sometimes offer new sources. The days of thinking that voters are too dumb or busy or lazy to look something up are over - everybody knows at least one political junkie who will fill in the blanks. Hellooo!

The Obama campaign has resorted to mocking Hillary’s trip to Bosnia in 1996, belittling it as a U.S.O. tour and saying there was no danger. But Hillary toured the frontlines of the international peacekeeping mission. CNN reported:

At a second outpost, Camp Bedrock, Mrs. Clinton visited a M.A.S.H. unit, the only full-service U.S. Army hospital in Bosnia. The three-hour tour of the frontlines of the international peacekeeping mission were filled with the gritty reality of a military operation, a far cry from traditional first lady photo opportunities, and Mrs. Clinton seemed more than comfortable with that.

A day later, the Charleston Gazette reported that “Protected by sharpshooters, Hillary Rodham Clinton swooped into a military zone by Black Hawk helicopter Monday…This trip to Bosnia marks the first time since Roosevelt that a first lady has voyaged to a potential combat zone…”



If the CNN and Charlotte Observer citations aren't correct, we'll hear about it. If they are correct, then she her statement appears to be supported...
