Can Clinton Win The Popular Vote?
Can Clinton Win The Popular Vote?

Ben Smith of Politico thinks it will be very difficult for Hillary Clinton to catch Barack Obama in a universally accepted popular vote count in the Democratic Presidential nomination contest since Florida and Michigan will not revote (So do I). Since neither Obama nor Clinton will have the necessary number of delegates to capture the nomination without Super Delegate support, the popular vote contest, though unofficial, becomes significant. Smith cites Bill Clinton:

"If Sen. Obama wins the popular vote then the choice will be easier. But if Hillary wins the popular vote but can't quite catch up with the delegate votes, then you have to just ask yourself, 'Which is more important, and who is more likely to win in November?'” former President Bill Clinton told ABC earlier this week.

Indeed. Now, as I said, like Smith, I think it becomes extremely difficult, to say the least, for Clinton to catch Obama without Florida and Michigan counting. Smith's analysis seems reasonable to me regarding the upcoming states. But here's the rub - it is just Smith's analysis. It is frankly absurd to hear people, like NBC and the Left blogs, say Clinton should drop out because WE think she can not catch up. Who are we to decide what the voters will do? The voters get to decide. Not the pundits. Not NBC. Not the Left blogs.

But contempt for the voters, of Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and beyond is the new watchword for Obama supporters - from NBC on down. It is quite unseemly imo.

(And, since when, do Democrats take the word of Jim Vandehei (whose wife is a Repug Operative and Mike Allen {who's also a reliable Repug Mouthpiece) who never give the names of any of the Clinton Campaign "insiders" they so freely quote in this piece of Repug Spin?)

Politico Hammers People of Color — Again;
Former Tom Delay Staffer Possibly Involved

The multi-million dollar Politico publication, funded by the GOP-leaning Allbritton Communications company, has successfully squashed another competitor via back door bullying. In effect, the publication, well-known for its lack of diversity and conservative leanings, has bullied a small Hispanic upstart publication into changing its name, or to face a mighty lawsuit.

(Every time you read a "Politico" article just remember who funds them and you will understand why Drudge get's so "news" from them.)

“Not content with taking stories that Hispanic journalists have already published and passing them off as exclusive, and THEN sending e-mails to Hispanic journalists …it seems that The Politico now also claims they own the Spanish language…,” according to RedBloguera.net.

The blog notes that the “Politico has forced La Política, an online newsletter dedicated to Hispanic political topics, to change its name because with all their millions they apparently can’t handle the existence of an online magazine that covers topics they completely ignore… even if their name is in Spanish…”

Insiders familiar with the situation say that Jim Vandehei, a top editor at the publication, played a large role in bullying La Política into changing its name to Candidito USA — or face a million dollar legal fight. Sources say, too, that Vandehei’s wife, Autumn Hanna Vandehei, a former Tom Delay staffer, likely played a role in the dealings. In Washington circles, Hanna Vandehei is well-known for opposing diversity initiatives.

In 2000, Vandehei was forced by his former employer The Wall Street Journal to stop covering Delay’s office due to complaints that his relationship with Hanna Vandehei was creating conservative bias in his reporting.

3. Not going to happen. All of this turmoil was staged during the long break
to get it out and over with. By PA this will be old news and the NBA halls will be filled to the rafter with people. "YES WE CAN!"

4. Hillary's opponent is simply the most unelectable candidate in years
Reverend Wright has now given whites and Hispanics the excuse many were looking for to not vote for Hillary's opponent.

8. Obama's opponent has yet to prove she is electable
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 08:21 PM by book_worm
and he's coming back! His speech on race 70% positive; the Richardson endorsement will be a big help (hey buckhead what do you think if Richardson winds up as VP? the latino and AA vote will be at records high along with enlightened whites who will look beyond race--and you may not think so but there are a lot of us). And you know Obama's opponent is even more unpopular than he is! by far! 55% unfav rating compared to 50% for Obama in that Ras poll and 48% favorable compared to his opponent's 43%. Talk about unelectable.

6. I don't think so
I do think H will win PA, WVA and KY by how much I'm not sure. I don't believe it will be 20 points in PA.

On the other hand I think O will win NC (by larger margin than recent poll indicates), Oregon (by a large margin--it's a Obama state like Washington), Montana, South Dakota, and possibly Indiana. So I think overall O will continue to hold a popular vote margin.

7. Neither Dem can.
Sorry, but we have seen the destruction of the Democratic party. By November most Americans will be so disgusted with the lack of direction in this party that they will stay home.

9. Nope. She's done, stick a fork in her.
She tried but no matter how hard she tried, the real hillary still came through and she showed herself for what she is. America is sick of the kind politics she represents.
