My gal Hillary is going to lose a super delegate...NY Gov Paterson
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 04:38 PM by ElsewheresDaughter
I'm sick....at first I posted as "Obama is going to lose a super delegate" I thought Paterson had switched to Obama....I was wrong. Obama had only "called him and asked him to switch"

deep sigh

Gov. Paterson says he's reimbursed his campaign for two hotel stays he can't explain while his aides' review found several cases where he used campaign money to pay for men's suits, furniture and bar tabs.

The reimbursements come after Paterson admitted to the Daily News that he may have used his campaign credit card to pay for a hotel visit with one of his lovers.

At the same time, Paterson's aides accused reporters of sexism for raising questions about campaign payments to women.

"In some cases the inquiries have bordered on sexist," said Errol Cockfield, Paterson's spokesman. "The governor has sought to be forthright. We've been very open and honest about these matters."

The personal payments, all of which Paterson later repaid, surfaced in an internal review by the governor's campaign lawyer, Henry Berger.

The payments included two overnights at the Quality Hotel on the Upper West Side paid for by Paterson's campaign. In both cases, Paterson said he can't recall the circumstances of the stay or even who stayed at the hotel on those nights.

"With two exceptions, we have found that all of the itemizations we examined seem to be proper," Berger said.

In trying to explain why he reimbursed a $1,430 American Express bill paid by his campaign, Paterson admitted several of the charges were for personal items such as clothing at the Men's Warehouse, items at the Taft Furniture Warehouse and drinks at an upper Manhattan bar called The Den.

At a rally in Albany, New York, Clinton was endorsed by a veritable who's who of Democratic leaders in her adopted home state, including Gov. Eliot Spitzer, Lt. Gov. David Paterson and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

149. Everyone endorsed Clinton
in NY. It is part of our change to a really successful united party. Have a heart. Even people who would actually be hurt by her candidacy endorsed her.

He is a decent guy. When the superdelegate shift has to happen he will be there for Obama and always for the common good. If you didn't need a reminder of his vulnerable new position lately the hit piece small potato article should clue you in. By personal nature and by present overwhelming circumstance he cannot get out in front much on the national duel. NY pols as a whole would like to be the last to wound their own Senator, especially after losing Spitzer.

It is LOSING Spitzer and his macho control over Wall Street and big donors that is the biggest sea change here. Like Bill, it is the story of yet another stumbling big guy letting Hillary down.

59. And here's a link for you!
Previously, Paterson had been mentioned as a possible successor to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton should Clinton win the Democratic nomination and also the 2008 U.S. presidential election.<33><34> Paterson is currently a Democratic party national convention superdelegate and has endorsed Clinton.<35>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Paterson

Oh, and another!

Paterson is also at odds with most of the black community regarding his presidential choice. Like Spitzer, Paterson endorsed Hillary Clinton and campaigned for her enthusiastically. He was also widely regarded as likely to be picked by Spitzer to replace Clinton in the U.S. Senate if she were elected president or vice president. If Clinton does win, that choice now will be in Paterson’s hands.

Obama Calls NY's Paterson

Mar 14, 2008

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — David Paterson, who on Monday will be New York's first black governor, received a call of congratulations from Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, where they chuckled over a political conspiracy that won't be.

Paterson has campaigned for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton — Obama's rival for the nomination — and remains a supporter. On Monday, Paterson will succeed Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who is resigning amid an investigation involving a high-priced call girl. Obama's call came Wednesday, shortly after Spitzer announced he would step down.

"I know Senator Obama and he just called to congratulate me and to extend, through me, his heartfelt sadness to the Spitzer family," Paterson said Friday.

Obama leads Clinton in the delegate race for the nomination and both candidates are aggressively courting the superdelegates who could determine who gets the nod. As a superdelegate, Paterson is in Clinton's column. Spitzer was a Clinton superdelegate, but she will lose that vote with his resignation.

Paterson, who said there was no pressure from Obama to switch, relayed a light comment by a mutual friend who said he should flip and endorse Obama, an Illinois senator who hopes to the first black president. Pundits had speculated that if Clinton became president, Spitzer might appoint Paterson to fill her U.S. Senate term.

"I said, 'No, that's not why I supported Hillary Clinton,'" Paterson told Obama. "She and I are very good friends and I think she will be the best president.'"

"He laughed. He knows I'm very committed to Senator Clinton," said Paterson. "When I sign up to support a candidate, it's to the end. I actually supported Custer, but I did leave right before the attack."

Clinton plans to attend Paterson's swearing-in on Monday.

doesn't resign his DNC seat and in effect give Obama a superdelegate. She misread that as being that he in fact was a superdelegate.

That pissed her off and she told me to shut the fuck up and then started looking for dirt on Patterson not realizing that he was a

Clinton supporter - very revealing actually.

I don't really like to say it, but after reading the kind of comments you usually post and then seeing the development of this thread, I just have to say that it's fully deserved. When one is blinded by hate, there really isn't much place for common sense, I suppose.
It's also somehow interesting that one would find glee in such a potential scandal when a Republican could be next in line to become the Governor of New York.

154. The OP is a real good person
and should take comfort that Paterson won't be banned from being a superdelegate.

158. I believe that in fact is true and part of the sadness of the Hillary campaign is that
it is the supporters who end up having to carry water on points that are increasingly bizarre or irrational.

155. She did lose a super delegate--Spitzer! Patterson was already a HRC super delegate
and now Spitzer as a ex-Gov is no longer a super delegate and Patterson was and is a super delegate so net gain nothing and net loss one.

156. Hillarat needs to quit now. She has no chance of winning. The only reason she is ...
still in the race is because the MSM needs bullshit to feed the talking heads. Even the talking heads know it is over. All she can do now is hurt and divide the party which IMO she doesn't give a flying fuck about. It's time for her to stop. Everyone who is supporting her on this board is damaging the democratic party and should be joining with the Obama supporters so we can win the GE. No amount of kool aid is going to change the chances of her winning. Obama has the popular vote and has the majority of the delegate votes. We don't need to wait for the fat cat super delegates. Get a damned grip and join in with us so we can stop the repukes from destroying what is left of this country and its constitution.

162. Who assumes Paterson's former SD spot?
He was already a SD thanks to his Lt Gov position. Now that he will be voting as governor, who will vote in the Lt. Gov spot? My understanding is a Republican was in line to assume the Lt Gov position, but he will of course not assume the SD spot. So is there just one less SD or do they find another high ranking party member in New York?

163. currently there is no Lt. Gov. and there is no legal way right now
to appoint one.
Basically, NYS lost one SD.

164. That is not correct. He was not a super delegate because he was a lt gov
he was DNC superdelegate who in this case happened to fill a superdelegate position

He could have resigned his superdelegate position and the NY state dem party could have appointed another superdelegate.

165. That's what I thought, too but...
He wasn't a DNC member elected from NY. He was an at-large member appointed by Chairman Dean. I read somewhere that he's not resigning his DNC position so it doesn't seem there will be a replacement and he won't get two votes I don't imagine.
