Bill Clinton: Obama hates America
unlike John McCain:

At a small VFW hall in Charlotte, NC, today, former
president Bill Clinton contemplated a McCain/Clinton general election
matchup, saying that it would one between "two people who loved this
country" without "all this other stuff that always seems to intrude
itself on our politics."

"I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you
had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest
of this country," said the former president. "And people could actually
ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other
stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."

29. THe sleazeball is the OP
who takes a pretty indisputable and innocuous statement and turns into to some attack on Obama, who isn't even mentioned. And neither, by the way are either HIllary or McCain.

You guys are getting pretty pathetic. As much as I admire Obama, I beginning not to be able to stand his supporters. At the moment, I'm half thinking that if he is the nominee that I won't vote at all just because I couldn't bear to hear anymore from his self-righteous supporters for the next four years.

As if in 2004 poor America didn't HAVE two candidates who loved their country.

FUCK CLINTONS. Fucking Bushprotecting Clintons are the ones who GAVE us Bush2.

90. Not to mention that there should never have been the least doubt of Kerry's love of country and when
Bill Clinton's patriotism was questioned, Kerry made this eloquent plea that those attacks end.

Speech posted here:

Kerry's wonderful words are a great antidote to the Clinton pettiness.

Your INTERPRETATION is pretty clear to YOU.
How can we possibly know what someone's implication is?

I've been flabberghasted when hearing someone relay an incident to a third party say something like "and gateley obviously was pissed", or "it was clear that gateley meant..." and I'm going "huh???".

We really don't know. I understand that this campaign has gotten ugly, and the Clintons have a rep for being up to their elbows in ugly tactics, but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

At this point, it's useless for us to waste our energy on despising the other candidate -- we need our energy to support the candidate we choose. It's going to be hairy in the GE regardless of who gets the nom.

Story behind the story: The Clinton myth
Politico

One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.

People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet.........

Madeline Albright, who when confronted on the losses of .5 million infants said, 'It was worth it."

This is sleazy but look at the craft of it - small hall, out of the lights, designed to
seep back in and make the point. Well done in a diabolical sort of way.

UNICEF data

In 1995 a UN Food and Agriculture Organisation led by Prof. Peter Pellett (chair of the University of Massassachesetts at Amherst's Nutrition Department; pellett@nutrition.umass.edu) compared 1995 child and infant mortality levels in Baghdad to 1989 levels. On the basis of the data they collected two team members published a letter to the British medical journal, The Lancet, concluding that some 567,000 Iraqi children had died as a result of the sanctions to that date. Source: Zaidi, Sarah & Mary C Smith Fawzi (1995). "Health of Baghdadís children", The Lancet, 346, 2 Dec., 1995. http://www.casi.org.uk/halliday/backg.html

David Haliday

(Headed "Oil for Food" program for Iraq; resigned in protest)

"The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed to me only ten days ago that the monthly rate of sanctions-related child mortality for children under five years of age is from five to six thousand per month. They believe this is an underestimate, since in rural parts of Iraq children are not registered at birth, and if they die within six weeks of birth, they are never registered."

But they NEED to start backing the Democrats. They can criticize Obama but remind voters he is stronger/better than McCain.

56. What troubles me most is the lack of recognition that we all stereotype.
It's how we treat individuals that truly matters. However, because I grew up in South Dakota (all white southern Germans and Sioux Indians (treated black but that's another story) during the 1970s, when I first arrived in Omaha NE as a teenager, I was afraid of Black men. I've moved beyond that but even if I didn't, I would have NOT EVER treated a person of another race poorly.

We are all part of the human race. The more we USE stereotypes to divide us, the more we lose. We all lose but the ruling class 1%.

having to answer any q's, naive for BO supporters to think he would never. I'm on my way out to the bank, and they're still playing the clip of Wright. Bill Clinton isn't the only one seeing what's going on. The RW machine chased him around for years & years.

Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 04:02 PM by bridgit
for quite some time. If all y'all would have it die down, you may want to reconsider posting links back to, in a manner of speaking, Clinton where he, or anyone for that matter is/are able to reestablish B&MO's disparity between what they say they think and what they do and say.

61. It's tragic that you can not have the grace to move beyond this smear.
It's all simplistic gutter politicking. But you know that? Do you care? Do you think that HRC and Bill's scorched earth policy will ever get young people and Blacks to EVER vote for them? The youth may be able to be manipulated but the BLUE COLLAR Black Americans will not *ever* vote for a Clinton again. They are far from clueless. Why do you think that HRC went from 35% of the Black vote down to 10%? That was IMO, Bill's Southern Strategy and people of color will not forget.

63. How egocentric does a person have to be to think this is about Obama?
If there's anything Bill Clinton has discovered, it's to never mention his name again or allude to him in any context.

I agree with the poster above; four years of this self-righteous thin-skinned howling-in-outrage over ever imagined slight is going to drive this country bonkers.

73. What's amazing to me is that ...
... for a long time the Clintons have had a reputation as the shrewdest, toughest people in Democratic politics. Only they knew how to withstand Republican attacks; only they knew how to expand beyond the party base; only they could win national elections. That's partly why Hillary was thought to be the "inevitable" nominee as recently as four months ago.

Yet, if this primary season has done anything, it's completely destroyed that notion. Such incompetence! Such clumsy, heavy-handed tactics! It's now a mystery how these people got as far in politics as they did.

Is Bill so narcissistic that he thinks the rest of us don't understand what his words mean? We've heard code words before. We've heard subtle smears before. We experienced them too. Swiftboating four years ago; Willie Horton 20 years ago; the "Southern strategy" 40 years ago. It's nothing new. Only, until now, it's always been "them" doing it to "us". I thought we were better than that.

88. Serious question
Tell me what he made up? I just read the quotation at MSNBC and it's an accurate quotation.

As for what Clinton meant, it's exactly this. There are two candidates who love their country (McCain & Hillary) and all this other stuff (Obama). It's obvious. Now you can argue that he didn't mean to cast negatives at Obama but the structure of the statement is obvious as I see it.

I'm agnostic on Obama, btw.

96. I'm not an agnostic on Obama anymore, and am hard pressed to
remember when I've ever disagreed with anything you've posted, but it seems to me that all he was saying is that a presidential race (once nominees are settled for both parties) shouldn't be about these pseudo-issues. I might be wrong, of course. But as I stated elsewhere in this thread, despite Bill's serial screw-ups during the primary season, I just don't take this as another one.

Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 05:04 PM by lumberjack_jeff
When Obama says something bad ("typical white person") he means something else. A good something else.
When Hillary's husband doesn't say something, it means that Hillary says that Obama is a big fat poopyhead.

Update: Bill Clinton spokesperson Matt McKenna clarifies the former president's comment: "Actually, as is indicated by the quote itself, President Clinton was talking about the need to talk about issues, rather than falsely questioning any candidate's patriotism."

I read the quote, at least as presented in the link, and I just don't read into it what a lot of people read into it.

He's put his big foot into his big mouth more than once this campaign season, and made an idiot of himself. I just don't think this particular quote is another example of it.
