Kerry NEEDS a new campaign theme.
Hey people. We know the knocks about Kerry needing to get a solid campaign message and his being dull. Well, one of the strongest ways to establish a singular, strong message is via the choosing a campaign theme song. Now, I like Tom Petty as much as the next guy, as much as one can, I suppose, but "Won't Back Down" just ain't cutting it. It's slow and kinda dull, and that's not gonna help Kerry at all. I'm the type of person who faces a situation with a new folder on my mp3 player, so. Reaching into my Bring It On! folder (see, I TOLD you I'd jump on the Kerry bus before long), I suggest these as far better campaign themes for the Kerry campaign.

Kerry on His Motorcycle - "Life is a Highway," Tom Cochrane.

It's a GREAT road tune, AND a subtle jab at Bush's Yes, America Can...ada bus all at the same time! Then again, as Jon Stewart said last night, "Mr. Kerry, sir? Americans don't really...UNDERSTAND subtlety."

Kerry on the Past - "1999," Prince.

This song's useful because it's a song of optimism about the future. Now, he can say, "Remember 1999? Remember how much we as Americans looked FORWARD to the new millennium? Remember how GREAT this country was in 1999? Look at how far we've come in 5 years, America! Instead of it being 2004, we're just stuck again in 1991!" Prince better not be one of his...weird moods when Kerry calls, though. That might be a problem.

Kerry on Vietnam - "Born in the U.S.A.," Bruce Springsteen.

I think Springsteen would definitely be up for allowing Kerry to use the song - Reagan the Movie "Star" he is not. Boss is a well-known Democrat, and the song REALLY fits Kerry's situation involving the war. Sure, he wasn't a middle-class workin' guy before going to Vietnam, but it sure defines his worldview afterwards. Kerry should at least ask.

Kerry on Gays - "Some Girls (Dance with Women)," J.C. Chasez.

I keed, I keed.

Kerry on Relating to Young People - "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)," Jason Mraz.

It's fast, it's fun, and it even has a couple lines on distrusting a certain lying wartime administration! It'll work as relating Kerry as hip to the concerns of young people. Maybe the best moment of the Clark campaign was the Outkast Fist Pounding, this song can help Kerry on that objective.

Kerry on Clinton - "Don't Know What You Got ('Til It's Gone)," Cinderella.

I've already seen hints of this in interviews with Kerry, reporters (mostly those like Woodruff) wanting Kerry to almost disavow Clinton. This could represent his answer to that - "We didn't know what we had when he had it, and now thast we've got Bush, we sure wish we had him again." Maybe a nice, firm "Clinton was better than Bush is, period" would work too.

Kerry on Defeating the "Popular Wartime President" - "The Final Game," Jerry Goldsmith.

It's the theme to the movie Rudy, damn!

Kerry on Big Theme Song Closer in Boston - "You Raise Me Up," Josh Groban.

Over the winter break, my mom had this song playing in the car, and I totally had a vision. The song playing, volunteers and workers singing along, it's a song that Kerry can use about the American people, working FOR them. It's a huge swelling ballad, and better defines the man from Bush. Can you imagine BUSH caring about the American people so much? Please.

Any ideas?

Later.

1. Kerry needs a set of nuts and someone to explain to him that
a sentence doesn't have to have 15 different qualifiers in it. He needs to speak clearly and simply so the morans can understand him. If he wants the sheeple vote he will have to dumb his speech down to a few clear and simple words.

3. Eh, even worse.
"Beautiful Day," I think, has been used by every politician since its release. Eck.

8. Theme
How about just growing a pair and going on the offensive?! Hell, he's as big of a snoozer as Al Gore was in 2000. I'll vote for him, but my first choice was Dean. Kerry's been a fence sitting, do nothing senator with a lackluster record for nearly 20 years in office.

9. Why not "We Built This City"?
It was recently voted the most detestable pop song of the rock-n-roll era, with damn good reason.

It could also hold true of Kerry's present campaign course. Annoying, unfocused, not much to differentiate it from that of the "other guy", other than the fact that he's "not Bush".

I'm still waiting for the 1990 John Kerry to rear his head: the one who broke Iran-Contra, who voted against Desert Storm, who wasn't afraid to take on BCCI. Other than his vote on DOMA, that Sen. Kerry seems to have crawled into the closet over the past 14 years.

Dammit, Senator, KICK IT UP A NOTCH! Don't be afraid to take bold stands! The people who don't want Bush want someone who is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM BUSH-- give them a REASON to vote.

We're waiting, Senator...

11. Start your own "Kerry Sucks" thread then...

...do you have a real suggestion, or are you just here to piss on a thread that was trying to be constructive?...

12. How to Win the Culture War
But Smith couldn't win by fighting back in the Kulturkampf; once you accept the terms of cultural struggle you lose. He had to win by showing Americans their common interests across cultural and sectional lines.

Well: show us. And, as Mencken would gently say, words of one syllable, please. There are journalists among the audience.

14. Kerry needs to do a lot of things
1) Stop taking both sides of almost every issue. Like when you speak to an Arab group and are asked about Isreals "security wall" and you answer in opposition to it and then days later speak before an Israeli group and come out in full support of it.

2) When asked about "Benedict Arnold CEOs" comments he has made he blamed his speech writer saying he didnt mean to say that.

Come on John!

And this is a short list.
