Stayed up to watch John Edwards on Leno
It was worth every minute. What a wonderful, sincere man. What a loss to our nation that he is not our nominee. Don't worry, if Obama and Hillary can make up and unite the party, I'll back either of them, but Edwards is still my first choice. And tonight on Leno, I was reminded once again why. Honestly, I feel a bit like crying that this wonderful person is not the nominee.

1. He said he wanted to serve his country
so AG Edwards is very much in the cards. Or even VP Edwards.

3. AG isn't the best place for him to tackle issues of poverty, though.
But he'd be good in any cabinet post.

14. In away it is because he could take back America from the Corporatists
and profit taking robber barons which would combat poverty.

17. He'd have to take orders from the "boss" who would likely get DNC dough from those people.
It would be a tricky proposition. You can't "target" entities because you don't like their obscene profits. After all, folks are saying Spitzer, for purely political reasons, got the "unfair scrutiny." You can't target entities because they're rolling in dough and then find a crime to suit the occasion.

Not saying it couldn't happen, but it might be fraught with disappointment as far as what he'd be able to actually do. The President will be disinclined to bite the hand that feeds the DNC and could want JE to stick to his more pedestrian knitting.

19. No, no, no. That's the Republican concept of the AG's office.
In fact, the AG is supposed to be independent. Janet Reno is an example of an independent AG. The president should choose an AG who has the same values, but not someone who "takes orders from the boss." The president should not be the boss of the AG. We saw what happens when a president fires an AG for crossing him: Nixon fired an AG for crossing him. The entire nation turned on Nixon.

7. No - I heard he was going to do that too but he praised them both equally.
Did you see Richardson is going for Obama per the AP?

11. Fabulous news re: Richardson
but does anyone think that should have been made before TX? The timing is kind of off now. AFAIK, there is not a large Hispanic population in PA, perhaps in NC?

12. I agree - Don't know why he didn't - Better late then never I guess
NC does have a lot of Hispanic's there. More then you would think.

http://www.ncruralcenter.org/databank/trendpage_Population.asp

In-migration of Hispanics is changing the face of North Carolina.

During the 1990s, North Carolina had the fastest growing population of Hispanics in the U.S., 394 percent, representing over 300,000 new residents. About half (45 percent) of the new Hispanic population settled in rural counties. Still, Hispanics represent only a small portion of the state's population, 4.7 percent, compared to the U.S. rate of 12.5 percent. Other ethnic groups, particularly Asians, also grew rapidly.

10. Yes, I was reminded why I am a dedicated John Edwards supporter.
I almost cried as well, for such a loss to this country.

Edwards will remain my first choice. The other contenders can't compete.

13. told that very thing to my best friend
I was saddened after it went off. I wanted him to talk more, because I miss hearing his maturity and kind laughable nature. HOPEFULLY he is our next Vice-President.

15. Funny how they painted him as the 'angry' candidate!
He is such a likable guy. A regular guy. The kind of guy you want to sit down and watch a basketball game with and have a beer with....the kind of guy who could winin a general election.

sigh

20. Edwards said that he has been in contact with Gore,
that he admires what Gore has done, how Gore has formed a meaningful movement for change without the mantle of the presidency. Edwards said that he wants to serve his country and that his issue remains poverty. He stated that one of the reasons he suspended his candidacy was that he was losing. He answered affirmatively when Leno asked him if he had thought that either Hillary or Obama would emerge as a clear winner by this time once he, Edwards, was no longer campaigning.

He said that he and Elizabeth are fine, that he is spending time with his family and that the children, who accompanied John and Elizabeth on their campaign part of the time, are being home-schooled this year. Edwards seemed to be enjoying his family very much.

Edwards stated that he had met with Obama. Edwards had positive things to say about both Hillary and Edwards.

Leno asked Edwards whether Edwards really thought it was a good strategy to run as a white male at this time. Edwards joked that he had considered what to do about that.

Edwards was as always, a true gentleman. He showed what a pure heart, what a good soul, what wonderful values he has. He showed. as he did consistently throughout the campaign, that he was the best candidate and the finest human being in the race. Unfortunately, this country showed, and the Democratic Party and press showed, that this election cycle, they are not looking for the best candidate or the greatest human being. They are looking for a good image and somebody who attracts enormous amounts of money for TV ads and slick brochures.
