Calling Out The Freepers
I find it interesting that any member of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY should be making light of, and excusing, the bush administration spying on our presidential candidates, members of Congress, party officials, etc etc

this cuts to the heart of the debate on domestic surveillance. who is being spied on. who has secret files being made up on them. what is the criteria. etc etc. I for one am not willing to give a free pass to people who have shown not just a willingness, but an EAGERNESS to use corruption of our governmental institutions against our party. how many crucial votes were bought with intimidation, fear, and scandal through illegal wiretapping and access to protected secure data and information?

in light of what has happened to governor don siegelman, and the republican party's use of agent provocateur's in the past (phil parlock, communists for kerry, etc)

I think it is time to call out the freepers in disguise here. by attacking senator obama's passport files, the republican administration is continuing the treachery that began in watergate, and has continued to this day. these are fascist moves by a fascist party that seeks not to win through elections, but by intimidation, illegal surveillance, personal invasion, and as we've seen with governor siegelman, when all else fails, by corruption and brutality.

it is unthinkable that any right minded member of the democratic party would at this point give this administration a free pass, while making light of our members, candidates, and supporters.

it is time to begin calling out the freepers. if we do not stand together on this, it places in jeopardy not just senator obama, but any member of our party, be it a congressman or woman, governor, party members. and not just them, but the general american public.

are you willing to trust the bush administration's word and make light of our own party?

I know I'm not.

1. I have seen that. Discounting this. If it were their candidate, they
would be sharpening their pitchforks. I would loathe this if it happened to anyone. I am sick of lackidaisical shit and I am sicker of this kind of stuff if it turns out to be politically motivated. It will come out. something like this can't be buried.

financial and medical records. it happens I'm sure. You would never know why you were denied things in your life if this happened. God help us all and GO MEDIA GO!

On edit I misread your post, but I'm sure Hill supporters will come out and say they are sick of all this mud slinging or some stupid shit.

4. You're addressing the wrong group
I don't think you'll honestly find too many here giving the admin any kind of free pass. The contempt is pretty uniform among us on that. The problem is not at DU, the problem is the Democrats that we've supported that are now giving the pass themselves.

9. No
I refuse to even mention clinton on this. I'm not an obama supporter so I won't even entertain notions that clinton did this.

this is a bush conspiracy, plain and simple.

27. Bill Maher summed it up best
"you know how it wasn't bush? because it worked."

this got leaked for a reason. not to damage clinton, but someone was letting us know whats going on.

this is chatter. this is someone on the inside leaking to the media, "hey...you guys are being spied on. your worst fears are coming true."

my guess is some right minded public employee whos been around as a lifer in the state department decided to send out a signal to us what is really going on behind the scenes. it doesn't matter if its a presidential election, but theres a whole lot up for grabs in this election.

imagine mccain winning and in a stunning reversal, republicans retake congress. thats a nightmare. the most likely scenario of a mccain win involves democrats gaining in congress

UNLESS....the entire bush administration is hardwired the government up to use against us.

I mean come on, they're keeping a former governor as a political prisoner down in alabama. is it that hard to fathom?

33. it was just a good quote
the point is, this doesn't SMELL like a clinton thing. in fact, someone already posted that the company who contracted the employees is a subsidiary of dynacorps

one of bush's favorite military contractors.

nope, this is a republican scandal. its inept, fascist, and is linked to a private contractor.

24. Until theres evidence
I won't point a finger at the clinton campaign. they've pulled some nasty stunts but no, this is beyond even them. this doesn't smell like a carville/penn kind of tactic either.

clinton's have a different kind of political style you can spot a mile away. they're too casual to do something like this. plus I just don't think they have the influence or would even think of pulling something like this. I think even carville would be like, ok this is going a bit too far.

no, this is straight out of the rove/cheney/rumsfeld watergate playbook. you can tell a republican scandal when they do it because its so brazen and right out front, they don't even bother to cover it up.

probably because they have the goods through wiretapping on the people investigating them...

18. My personal feelings
is that theres a lot of more outrageous posters on the Obama/Clinton debate who aren't REALLY here to support them

my post count is under 1000 but I've been a member of DU almost since it began. I just haven't really posted as much til this election cycle. after Howard Dean lost the nomination, I kinda grew disgusted with politics. Biden got me re-energized and he was my nominee.

this is a threat to ALL our candidates. its not just a president being elected this year, we have a chance to add seats in the senate and the house, not to mention state and local elections. this kind of shit is a threat to ALL of the democratic party.

anyone who can't see that is either too fanatical....or a fraud.

31. I was with several of my Latin students finalizing plans for our spring Roman festival, when a
colleague wandered into the lounge and said "well, I guess you've heard they've been pilfering through Obama's state department files?" She then filled in the details as they were known at that time.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but my first thought was: I wonder how many HRC boosters at my favorite progressive discussion board are already wearing out keyboards defending such illegality because they're hoping against hope that something turns up to damage Senator Obama? I see my concerns were warranted.
