AP: Kerry to spend $25 million on ads in May!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61199-2004May2.html

WASHINGTON - John Kerry is sharply expanding his campaign advertising with a $25 million buy this month that exceeds the total he has spent on television commercials since wrapping up the Democratic presidential nomination. The new ad campaign featuring his biography and platform includes substantial ventures into two Republican-leaning states.

The buy for ads running from Sunday through May 27 is the single-largest purchase of airtime yet this year by either presidential campaign. However, President Bush spent almost double that in multiple buys in March, his first month on the air.

The Massachusetts senator has been airing moderate levels of ads on local broadcast channels in select media markets in 17 battleground states. But starting later this week, he will run new 60-second ads in all media markets in those states, plus in Louisiana and Colorado, according to Democratic sources familiar with the buy.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the two new ads - one that focuses on aspects of Kerry's life such as his Vietnam service and another that talks primarily about his top issues - also will run on national cable networks.

Stephanie Cutter, a Kerry campaign spokeswoman, declined to comment Sunday, but confirmed that a major launch of biographical ads is coming soon. Later Sunday, the campaign announced that it would hold a news briefing Monday for reporters on a "significant new general election ad buy."

3. please contribute to the John Kerry campaign
Please contribute to the John Kerry campaign.

George W. Bush is running tv commercials making it sound as if because Kerry voted against the $87 billion (which was correct), he doesn't want the troops to have body armor.

Kerry needs money to answer Bush's distortions.

6. No it is not his time to sink or swim
June and July will be that time. Around the decision for VP and the convention and such will be the real sink and swim time.

April is early and so is May in a election campaign.

People forget this.

8. Actually, November 1 will be sink or swim time
Polls are incredibly volatile. In the end, what's most important is what happens in the 48 hours leading up to the election. That's what Kerry showed in Iowa, where he lagged in 3rd or even 4th place, sprinting at the last minute. Every month from now until the election is more important, but the importance of the last 48 hours is exponentially higher.

13. No, 97% will have made up their minds by October. The other 3%
will break for Kerry (the challenger) by at least 2 to 1.

Such a statement carrys no weight.

No opposition candidate has pulled ahead of the incumbent in any election in which the incumbent was running for re-election until the last month of the campaign. In fact, the opposition was more likely to be behind the incumbent, usually in double digiits which makes Kerry being a few points behind Bush in the national polls, and ahead of Bush in all 17 battleground states a situation which gives Kerry an enormous advantage,as long as Bush's decisions keep proving to have negative results, while Kerry stays away from the public eye as much as possible until the last 6 to eight weeks of the campaign. For Kerry to pul ahead by main mean having to maintain that lead for five months which would be virtually impossible. It is better for Bush to be the target of the media for as long as possible, rather than have Kerry be the focus of media attention.

15. Come on, there are 6 months to go. He is already ahead.
Kerry should be ahead by an average of at least 2% on May 30.

He will jump further ahead after the July convention. I expect he will be up by at least 8-10% at that time.

He has the bucks. He has a unified party. He has Repubs deserting Bush. Don't worry, he is just getting started..and there is a long way to go for him to wipe the floor with Bush.

It won't even be close. He will win by at least 6 million votes.

5. Don't forget the DNC
Edited on Sun May-02-04 05:36 PM by mobuto
Please, please contribute to John Kerry directly.

But also remember to save something for the Democratic National Committee (http://www.democrats.org).

Kerry's money will go mainly to running ads, but the DNC will spend much if not most of what it gets on running bricks and mortar get-out-the-vote operations in important states. In the end it doesn't matter how many Kerry ads you see if you can't get to the polls on Election Day.
