Libertarian Candidate gets it right re: the draft
Aaron Russo on a potential draft:

"The question is this simple, should the government have the power to take our sons and daughters, against their will, in order to rescue themselves from the situation they themselves brought about with an immoral, unwinnable war?

"The answer is no. The war in Iraq was a mistake a year ago, and it's a mistake today. Not one more drop of American blood to save our politicians from their own wrong-headed policies."

I'd like to hear more sentiments like these from Democratic elected officials.

Unfortunately, since so many of them went against their better judgment and voted for IWR, they now have to worry about saving face. *sigh*

2. He's right on the money
The Draft is unconstitutional and should be resisted by all public officials who have taken an oath to uphold and defend the constitution.

3. Another Libertarian that makes sense.
Congressman Ron Paul is a Libertarian who hangs a Republcian shingle on his door to keep his seat.

But he hates the Neocon agenda, and so I respect him for that.

But, to this day, he still believes that Clinton was Wagging the Dog when he tried to blow up Osama. Dogmatic, to be sure.

Edited on Sun May-02-04 05:33 PM by nonkultur
Ron Paul tried to get a bill to abolish Selective Service around the same time that Rangels National Service bill came up.

HR 487
Status: Unfavorable Executive Comment Received from Selective Service Comm.

It is sitting in limbo right now.

4. That's quaint, but not very practical.

If I want to daydream, I'll vote Libertarian.

If I want to change things, I'll go with Kerry, thank you very much.

People often fool themselves not by having the wrong answers, but by insisting on the wrong questions.

"Should the gov't... themselves from the situation they themselves... our politicians from their... policies?"

Libertarians have this notion that government is this floating entity that is completely seperate from ourselves. In this country, WE are the gov't. If we end up with a corrupt gov't with lousy policies, then it is OUR fault, not THEIR fault, because there is no THEY.

5. To vote libertarian
would be a daydream because libertarians will never have enough support to win an election.

To vote Kerry and hope for change is also a daydream. All politicians are out for one thing, themselves. They are all liars, cheats and scum. all of them.

Kerry wont change anything. He might raise taxes, but he will also create more social programs to eat away that increased income.
He might try to create universal healthcare, but in the process those of us that have good insurance now will see a great reduction in services.

The only way to see change in America is for the American people to say that we have had enough, vote in a non politician to office and throw all of the conservative and liberal scum into the streets to live the life that they created for the rest of us.

That my friend would be justice served.

9. I'm not waiting for that day...
... that Americans say enough because that day will never come with things the way they are. Those in charge have spent a lot of time and effort solidifying themselves.

It would seem to me that any non-politician makes who makes their way into office becomes a politician. I don't see the corruption of politicians as the cause of our nation's problems, I see it as the symptom.

But John Kerry made a very non courageous, politically expedient vote for IWR, did he not?

Don't misunderstand, I'll be voting for Kerry in November, but I'm still disappointed that he took the easy way out on Iraq.

8. I don't think so
... nor was it an easy vote to make. It's earned him a lot of flak from his left. I think he did what he had to do.

7. He agrees with Rummy, Cheney
and all the rest of the neo-cons who want a nice, abiding, professional army.

Makes it much easier to start a war, not having the damned civilians involved.
