Delegates, Super Delegates and ??? WTF Add On Delegates ????
While everyone is focused on Pennsylvania as the next big primary actual delegates are being chosen all of the time.

You have the state conventions meeting and making the actual decision based on caucus support you also have states adding on a total of 81 additional delegates - bigger than most states and roughly half of the lead that Obama has over Clinton.

Here are the details of the "ADD ON DELEGATES"

http://www.demconvention.com/how-to-become-a-delegate/

Add-on delegates - May be selected by either the same selecting body that selects the state's PLEO delegates or by the same selecting body which will select the state's "at-large" delegates. They can be selected whether or not they previously filed a statement of candidacy for a delegate position or submitted a pledge of support for a presidential candidate. There are both pledged and unpledged add-on delegates.

A total of 81 delegates (75 if you exclude Florida and Michigan) will be chosen between Feb 23rd and June 21st by individual states- most states get 1-2 delegates. So far 5 delegates have been chosen. One would expect that the small states who only have one delegate and are predominately Obama big win states would be appointing mostly Obama delegates. Bigger states that have 3 or 4(New York) or 5 (California) would likely see split appointments.

Again you would expect that after all of the add-on delegates were appointed that there would be another net gain for Obama of 10-15 delegates.

there maybe a total of 4 of us here that care about this crap but I thought it was interesting to get it defined and also get the schedules so we can follow it as it goes.

5. No, these delegates are already figured in to the total
They are included in each state's total delegation.

7. There was an article about these in (Sunday?)'s Boston Globe
It was fascinating to read. It didn't list every state, but compared a few.

8. All caucus states hold another "vote"
At least I believe so. It's the case here in Maine and the next vote is almost more important than the caucus vote.

The count done at the next level, in our case the state convention, determines for certainty how many national delegates each candidate gets. If delegates don't attend the convention or if delegates switch (although ethically bound) to another candidate, the numbers projected at caucus time could change. It's incumbent on the campaigns to make sure all their delegates remain committed and turn out for the convention.

In 2004, the Kucinich people were so good at getting their delegates out to the convention and the Kerry people didn't even try that DK picked up National Delegates at Kerry's expense.

9. Some states even hold another vote after that. I heard Washington state holds something like.......
four votes before actually selecting the delegates that go to the national convention.
