This mornig I had a huge AHA! moment
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 11:51 AM by Madam Mossfern
It's about all this Reverend Wright stuff.

Tell me... are not the members of his congregation American citizens?
Was he speaking to the 'enemy' with his God damn America speech, or was he speaking to fellow Americans to wake up to reality and do something to change the way the US has been acting in those instances? He was holding them accountable...as AMERICANS.

Those who are complaining loudly about his speech have some 'splainin' to do because as far as I see it he was speaking as a patriot to other patriots. Or... are only white people and republicans eligible to be American patriots?

3. Sorry, you're post makes little sense to me
I don't see the problem with his goddamn America sermon but I have real issues with his attacks on Bill and Hillary and Natalie Hollowell as well as the timing of his 9/11 sermon- one week after the attack. And while it's certainly legit to criticize Clinton for his policies re AAs, the shit about how Clinton screwed AAs the way he did Monica, was crass and gratuitous. So was his remark about Hillary. She may never have been called n***er, but Obama's never been called *c**t. Do you really think one is better than the other?

7. Agree about bringing up Hillary, Monica, and politics at church. Way past inappropriate.

4. I wrote in a thread
yesterday that Wright is an AMerican. People seem to be treating the people that attend TUCC as if they are not "regular" Americans. Obama really is trying to make a point when he says we are one America, even if we have different stories.

5. I'd like to listen to the whole thing.
It's very possible that the point of the sermon was quite different from what the few snippets say. I think that perhaps the media has been hard on Wright himself. But until I listen to the whole thing, I can't make a judgment.
One thing for sure, there ought to be some place on this earth that AAs can say what they think without being labeled. Historically that's been church.

6. I hear the same thing in white churches across America ALL THE TIME.
for keeping prayer out of church, God off our money, the bible out of the courtroom, the commandments out of government offices, nativity scenes off government lawns, for allowing gays to marry, etc, etc, etc.

The DIFFERENCE is he is a Black pastor with a expressive & passionate style, and it doesn't play well on 30 sec sound bites. But, Newsmax, Bill Kristol, and those who post their FILTH won't acknowledge that.

8. That’s why he cant win the GE now.

“GOD DAMN AMERICA” wont play well in the heartland or the south etc.. Barack may very well win the primary but he hasn’t a chance in hell winning the GE after this.

saying God damn America or any of the other things Wright said, it's a non issue. Nice try, but no cigar.

11. An AHEM, to your huge AHA moment ...
Rev. Wright was clearly ordering God to damn America and by doing so he revealed to his audience just how small he can be. Unfortunately, like you, they were too small to notice.

12. What's with the personal insults around here?
I hardly think that Pastor Wright or any of his congregation think he has the power to direct God to do anything. Have you ever heard of the term "hyperbole"? Do you have an issue with the biblical prophets who told of damnation and destruction because of peoples' refusal to adhere to God's word? Now, don't get me wrong here, I'm not insinuating that Wright is a prophet, but he is using that language.

I hope you had fun playing with the size of the font to call me small.
