Clinton's and Obama's supporters, especially the older ones, were probably involved in movements that were highly critical of American policies and institutions. Because so many "radicals" belong the party, exposing them to embarrass one's opponent succeeds in diminishing the Democratic Party itself. Few of us are going to meet that pristine patriotism that the Republicans tout anyway.
