Vote for Congress: Democrats 44% Republicans 37%
While we're all wrangling over the big show, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at a trend indicated by this tracking poll. While the results probably will mean nothing in terms of the attempt to take back Congress, Congressional voting trends tend to provide a better picture of the direction the country is leaning.

Wednesday April 21, 2004--If the Congressional elections were held today, forty-four percent (44%) of Likely Voters say they would vote for a Democrat while 37% say they would vote for a Republican.

Today's numbers matched the biggest lead that the Democrats have held on the generic Congressional Ballot over the past two weeks. The Democratic lead has ranged from 4 to 7 points.

1. Sadly these polls are meaningless
due to gerrymandering only the votes in about 30 districts matter.

2. I know

As I said up front, I know it does mean anything in terms of taking back Congress. Polls of this variety do, however, give some insight into the leanings of the country.

3. why it's so hard to change the Congress . . .
people rant and rave about how bad Congress is, but they almost invariably like THEIR congresscritter and keep reelecting him or her . . . it's everyone else's that they want to change, but it just don't work that way . . . . . .

4. Saw these same kinds of numbers before the 2002 election and
Dems ended up losing the Senate.

So I wouldn't trust these polls.
