Could N.D. go blue for Obama?
http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=194681§ion=Opinion&freebie_check&CFID=14795083&CFTOKEN=87051354&jsessionid=883031162c4a603a7540

Here’s one for the history books: A new poll from SurveyUSA found that if the presidential election were held now, Barack Obama would best John McCain in North Dakota. The sampling of 574 likely voters in the state said 46 percent would go for Obama, 42 percent for McCain. In the same poll, Sen. Hillary Clinton would lose to McCain, 54 percent to 35 percent among North Dakotans.

Of course, a single poll is nothing more than a snapshot in time. It’s not a definitive measure of voter preference unless it’s supplemented by a series of polls and other analyses that identify trends and settled voter sentiment. Nonetheless, even the suggestion that a Democrat – any Democrat – can win the presidential vote in historically red-state North Dakota in 2008 is an eyebrow-raiser.

1. SUSA also has Obama down on 3% to McCain in Nebraska of all places!!
I seriously think with a little attention, Obama could expand the map big time in the GE. One rally would probably seal the deal in those small states. He could collect enough EV's to make a difference in a close election.

11. Nebraska splits delegates
He's actually leading in 2 congressional districts. Right now he'd take 2 of 5 electoral votes. Simply amazing.

12. Why are people surprised by this?
Obama's anti-Washington, anti-establishment message resonates the most in the Midwest. Midwest has always loved that kind of message.

15. Why? This is Nebraska I'm talking about
I agree with you. I think his message is fantastic, but to see this kind of support, at this juncture of a presidential race in Nebraska is really amazing.

5. Hillary is such a drag on the Dem. ticket
She'll ruin our chances if she slashes and burns her way to her coronation.

9. Against a "four more years" slug like McCain?
North Dakota could go gay for Obama. Or for Clinton.

10. Obama's a Booster Rocket, Clinton's an anchor
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 07:58 PM by mikekohr
I live in a county that has been dominated by the Republican Party since the 1850's. Senator Obama is attracting support among people here, and across the nation, that have never shown desire to support any Democrat.

We will make big gains in the Senate and in the House this fall. But like it or not, to win the White House, and to lift the entire ticket even higher will require the ability to attract support among independents, moderates, and to be able to peel away that thin sliver of reasonable Republicans.

Senator Obama has demonstrated that ability. Senator Clinton, not so much.

14. I think it's pretty unlikely
I think the same polls also showed it close in New Jersey and Massachussets, and I guarantee both of those states will go for the Democrat no matter who it is.

That said I think Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Nevada, and Wisconsin are states that are much more likely to go blue with Obama as the nominee.

Clinton could take Arkansas though. And it's 6 or 7 EV's.
