Could anyone have imagined this a year ago?
Look at us!! One year ago we were united. We had a new Democratic congress. We were united in our opposition to the war. We could not WAIT for the 2008 elections, and to get rid of Bush for good. We were excited, optimistic, and ready to go.

Now....one year later. We're at each others throats. We're all either racists or sexists depending on who your candidate is. Bill Clinton, who used to be a hero, is a bum. Keith Olbermann, who used to be revered around here, is now the enemy to a good share. "I'm not voting for your guy under ANY circumstances." "Oh yeah, well i would never EVER vote for her!!!" Whats up is down, and whats down is up.

Our party was supposed to win this in a walk. Now we're tearing each others guts out, while John McCain does a couple of victory laps and sharpens his sword for the fall.

What the hell happened? Its....well.....its depressing.

Can't we all just get along?

1. A year ago
the Hillary v Giuliani Presidential Race was a given.

What a difference a few months make. We've got a few more to go before November so I'm not paying too much attention to the "__________(insert Hillary or Obama here) has no chance against McCain."

McCain looks like he could fall apart in a moment's notice.

13. I just saw him on TV
and he looked terrible. Seriously bad. Old. Tired. His face was all puffy. This campaign will be hazardous to his health IMHO.

Of course Mitwit is out campaigning for the VP slot. Wonder why he's so enthusiastic about being #2. Maybe he thinks, like I do, that McCain can't possibly serve out the full term.

3. It's mind boggling!
A year ago I'd have bet my hard-earned money that Hillary would be our next president, as all the signs seemed to point to it, and I'd have been proud to have voted for her.

I like both candidates, but I sure thought it would be Hillary.

4. The fracturing of the party is a DU and talking head
discussion point. I really don't think that it will be an issue with most of the regular voting populace.

6. Exactly
If the same people who rejected St. BBQ can now rally around him, we Democrats, who are a hell of a lot smarter, can come together for the good of our party and our country as well. I do not believe for a second that anything that has happened in the primaries has done irreparable harm to us in the GE.

I'm not saying that there won't be some healing and re-energizing to be done, but I don't see it as beyond either candidate to achieve. People will remember that who we vote for in November--and whether they vote or not--does make a difference.

And anyone who has a 'I'm taking my ball and going home' attitude can go eff themselves. (I still want to punch anyone who voted for Nader in NH in 2000.)

8. The healing had better take place quickly
As soon as the nomination is officially settled there needs to be a joint statement with both of them on stage. They need to publicly kiss and make up. Talk about what a strong party we are. It won't take a lot of time for democrats to focus back on McCain as soon as our infighting is out of the news cycle.

Seriously, we have the summer for people to cool off (ironically enough) and September and October to really nail this thing.

14. If there's anything we know, it's that Americans have short political memories
I do think that they will forget this if it's sold correctly. Clinton and Obama might hate each other for the rest of their lives, but publicly they need to kiss and make up.

16. gonna pull a Lieberman???
She already DID. She ranked herself and McCain above Obama. She has basically said that IF she isn't the nominee of the party, McCain should be the choice of the country (being the only one left who is "qualified").

That and the 3am fear mongering TV spot, what more do you want?

Now comes the "Obama wouldn't be where he is if it wasn't for the fact that he is a black man".

All of these weren't said once (a slip that could be attributed to the heat of the moment) but have been continued over and over again. Not a slip, but a planned action.

She is trying to ensure that IF Obama is the nominee, McCain beats him. That's the actions of a Zell Miller or Joe Lieberman.

Hillary is no longer a Democrat.

10. Hillary's piss poor planning
is causing a divide and she expects everyone to treat it like it's Our emergency.. She is obviously so not ready for prime time presidency. Poor planner, liar, too chummy with the dirtiest repugs, etc. etc. etc.

I never realised what a loser she really is, but this campaign has put it out there for everyone to see.

11. For Kucinich fans this is no surprise.
When the early candidates were weeded out like yesterday's lunch without so much as a peep from the Hillary, Edwards, and Obama fans it was pretty clear that this was a preselected match. Hillary knows that all she has to do is stay in the game and her man * and his Rove theatrics will finish it off for her. If you have been watching Tweety for the last two years he has been stating that Hilary is the Dem nominee. He and his cohorts in crime have worked overtime to make it so. I am working my *ss off for Obama to try and give America one more chance. I think a lot of people are. Peace, Kim

19. Exactly--I'm so tired of reason post after post expressing bewilderment
over the sorry state of the race and the party, when the shit that ripped us apart is 90% coming from one campaign. It's ridiculous, we can all see where the blame lies.

17. Never
A year ago I thought it was going to be Hillary-Guiliani. I wasn't happy about my pre-picked candidate, but put on a happy face and tried to see the silver lining ("hey, at least we'll finally have a female president!") I'm not pleased, of course, with the direction we are heading right now with all the infighting, but I'm glad we at least have a choice now, and I'm especially happy that my choice appears to be ahead and may win this nomination. So hopefully this race will shape up to actually be Obama vs. McLame -- now THAT would be something many people would have NEVER predicted!!
