Pelosi dumps on the dream ticket - AGAIN.
“Take it from me — that won’t be the ticket,” Pelosi said Thursday at her weekly press conference. Pressed for further explanation by a chorus of reporters shouting, “Why?” Pelosi declined to elaborate.

“Do you want me to go through a lifetime of political gut?” said Pelosi, who grew up in an intensely political family in Baltimore. “I do think we’ll have a dream team — it just won’t be those two names.”

30. Wow, did you make that up yourself?
I am so sick of these stupid one-liner posts with no reason, argument, fact, or anything to back them up. There's a whole host of reasons why it's not happening, and frankly I think it's better leadership to acknowledge reality - we need a strong candidate that picks their own VP, rather than two candidates clinging to each other in an uncomfortable coalition, which is going to have the words 'tension' and 'backstabbing' attached to it from the word go.

9. As Much As I Disagree With David Broder, You Should Read
his column today. The big obstacle with this theory is imagining "the Big Dog" roaming around the West Wing in an Obama administration.

By David S. Broder
Thursday, March 13, 2008; Page A17

One of the great surprises of my first presidential campaign, back in 1960, came on the final morning of the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. Cecil Holland, a colleague at the old Washington Star, burst into our workspace, having discovered from his sources that Lyndon B. Johnson had just accepted John F. Kennedy's offer of the vice presidential nomination.

Barely 48 hours earlier, Kennedy and Johnson had tangled in a spirited debate before the Massachusetts and Texas delegations, continuing a fight that had started years before on the Senate floor and had wound through that whole spring and summer. At times, it got really nasty, with India Edwards, a Johnson supporter, peddling the rumor (which later turned out to be true) that Kennedy was suffering from Addison's disease.

Ever since, it has always seemed the better course of wisdom not to dismiss the possibility of rivals for the presidency ending up on the same ticket. It happened just four years ago, when John Kerry chose John Edwards as his running mate.

But with all necessary cautions, the talk of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama winding up as partners seems truly far-fetched. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/12/AR2008031203397.html

13. Yesterday I posted an OP with a link to a Vanity Fair article about
Gore, Hillary, Big Dog, and Tipper in the Clinton administration.

I think it kind of backs up why a VP Hillary wouldn't be such a good idea.

and Bill. Now we know why, I have that issue of VF. The Clinton's made it real clear who had the ear of the President and was the real #2.

11. Leads me to suspect that Edwards may be in contention as a VP pick.
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 12:15 PM by Spider Jerusalem
And if not Edwards then Jim Webb. I can see either of those on a ticket with Obama being described as a 'dream team' (and they're both very similar in their economic populism).

29. Edwards popped in my head when I read that but I dont think...
thats good for Obama. I would suggest someone like Dennis Kucinich, that way the corrupt system wouldn't take Obama out like JFK. There is no way they would want Kucinich on a national stage talking about the issues that he talks about and if they took out two it would be too obvious.

“Do you want me to go through a lifetime of political gut?” said Pelosi, who grew up in an intensely political family in Baltimore.

Never heard that phrase before and wonder what it means.

I think Nancy knows both candidates well enough to say it won't be happening. Her gut has been around a long time, can't argue with that?

7. Well, for once Pelosi sees reality and describes it accurately. Good for her.
There's no way, not after this acrimonious a primary campaign, that Clinton and Obama form a dream ticket. I'll be impressed if the loser actually goes out and campaigns for the winner, and frankly I think that the best we'll get is a good concession speech urging the loser's supporters to back the winner, a firm handshake and an onstage hug. But a dream ticket, no way in hell.

8. Pelosi probably spoke with Obama and Clinton in private...
and they both probably said they'd rather commit seppuku with a fondue fork than run on a shared ticket.

Can't say I blame them (well, can't say I'd blame Obama, at least, though I'm biased...)
