Ferraro is the perfect publicity stunt for Clinton, if she plays it right.
Ferraro seems to be on a one woman crusade to make an ass of herself, turn back race-relation by 50 years, demolish the coalition that forms the Democratic party, or possibly all 3. How could Hillary benefit from this? Think of it as a reverse Sister Souljah moment. If Hillary comes down hard and says "Geraldine, I don't give a fuck who you are and that you were a VP on Mondale's ticket. You're saying terrible things that hurt America, so STFU!" Clinton will look strong, might be able to overcome perceptions of being engaged in race-baiting, and will show herself to be able to speak on behalf of all Americans on an issue.

1. Too late; she should have already denounced Ferraro.
Her tepid response to date makes it seem as if she supports what Ferraro has said.

2. But Ferraro keeps on talking. Maybe they're building it up for effect!

15. this is for PA...
you know the state with Philadelphia & Pittsburgh, and Alabama in between? It could be a very good strategy. I hypothesized about this on another thread. I think it's very calculated & even brilliant if it works. But what do they do after PA? The Clinton campaign lives in the moment, with no thoughts of what comes next. How does the party heal after all the racially charged crapola coming from the Clinton camp?

Sadly, Hillary's campaign has put about as much thought into this strategy as the one they employed for post Super Tuesday. They have no concrete plan going forward. They just need to "blacken" up Obama enough to chip away at his perceived universality. They became apoplectic when Obama began running even, and in some cases even overtaking her in what had been her strongest demographics.

Ferraro being all over the tube is no accident, it is designed to further degrade Obama's white support. It's free publicity and it keeps Hillary's campaign in the headlines. As they say, negative press is better than no press at all.

Ferraro looks like a strong woman. Go Geraldine!

6. That ship has sailed.
HRC had a few opportunities to do what you're suggesting, since Ferraro repeated and defended her comments at least three times. Consciously or not, she completely dropped the ball on that, and it's been a full two or three news cycles now.

The rot has set in.

8. The timing is off for political benefit. Hillary could have benefited from this if ......
this broke a week before the PA primary. She could come down hard on Ferraro and distance herself, she then makes herself look like an advocate for equality with a fair eye, AND Ferraro could keep up her one woman crusade of smearing Obama. Good cop bad cop routine.

12. Kind of like McInsane sending his reps out to trash the Dems and then "renouncing" them.
The message gets out and the candidate looks "reasonable."

We should spend our time and energy calling out the pukes for the tactic.

13. Ferraro is speaking with Clinton's full approval
If Clinton truly rejected Ferraro's views, Ferraro would not still be making the rounds. She would have been silenced days ago.

14. You have no clue what your saying
Your saying Ferraro/Hillary is bringing Obama's race to the forefront? I think most people knows he's a black man and if they don't know his full name by now then they have had there head in the sand. I believe your calling the residence of our country backwards racists, and, if that were really true, they sure as hell don't need Ferraro/Hillary to tell them what color he is or how they will vote. Give it a rest. You've been on this racist jag for two days.

17. I think you meant to direct that bile at Ms. Ferraro, she's the one
still making the rounds on every available news outlet. Guess we'll have to differ as to who's on a "racist jag".

16. It's a hybrid strategy
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 12:44 PM by rocknation
Underminding Obama's greatest strength--his colorlessness--by reminding everyone that's he's black while whining about reverse recism or female victimization at any attempts of his to retaliate (the angry brutal black man attacking the pure white woman). Now that's she's a "free agent," Hillary is no longer "responsible" for her, she but can reap the bounty. And if Obama says nothing, he's "weak on defense."

I predict Geraldine will try to keep this story alive as long as she can. While I like Obama's insinutation that she's acting like a Republican, I think he should ask her what the difference between his presidentianal bid and her vice-presidential bid is.
