NC DU'ers! We had our first Caucus today what was your turn out?
Wake Country Here: Less than 5% of Democrats showed up at the polls. There was very light turnout in African-Amercian Districts, Heavier turn out in "newer organized precincts (Dean-Kucinich voters were organized and covered the "thrown together" Caucus sites. (NC has NEVER had a caucus, so this was a new thing.)

Anyway here are the numbers: Sharpton, 33 votes; Dean 155 votes; Kucinich, 165 votes; Kerry, 345 votes and Edwards 1,074 votes.

We were there working for our Dems all day. First at the polls where NC'linians voted a straight vote by "paper ballot" at our polling place.

Then off to the "Wake County Convention," where we Precinct Chairmen/Ladies...et all were to vote on the Resolutions we had proposed from our meeting a month ago where we would vote on resolutions we wanted to propose.

Our Anti-War Resolution got trashed because "States don't have the right to "declare war." Dean and Kucincich were recognized for "Energizing the Party" over Edwards.

A Resolution to "Recommend a Kerry/Edwards Ticket for PRES/VP" got trashed and voted Down....with STRONG ATTACKS by Dean/Kucinich activists.

For NC's "Favorite Son" this had to be a BIG "WAKE UP!"

I'll leave this here....because most folks don't want to read over three sentences or a paragrap about this stuff on DU anymore.

But, hopefully, I'll hear from other NC DU'ers about how the "rest of the state went." :-)'s

1. My thoughts are that it went fine except for...
lots of missing names on the list. Including mine. More would have come out if they had known or as most for Kerry just didn't show up.
I think most thought it was already a done-deal. For 100 counties and the few polling places scattered throughout the state. It was hard for some to get there anyway.

2. Yes...it all got screwed up with Repug Redistricting and Iowa and NH
voting so early it was all over except for the tweeting birds....:-(

Still we managed to accomplish alot yesterday and get our opinions out and in Conservative NC that counts for alot for a new beginning... So few polling places, so well concealed and put out at the last minute didn't help at all. Everyone thought it was a "done deal" though and the Dems don't have the big money in states like the Repugs. Still, they should have tried to do better, I think..
