Return of the dirty tricks?
This was posted on MoveOn forum

Cause the Republican Party to lose millions

Here's an idea that if applied on a large scale can have a big impact besides providing an individual sense of gratification. It's simple. Go to the Republican Party website (or any Republican candidate's website) and contribute just 1 cent to their fund-raising effort via your credit card. It will end up costing them about 1 dollar. Here's how. Credit card processing cost roughly $0.25 per transaction. They will automatically send you a letter at a bulk mail rate of $0.13 politely thanking you for contributing $0 to the Republican cause. Within the letter is a Business Reply envelope that if sent back empty will cost them and additional $0.50. Add all this up plus the cost of processing the letters and your $0.01 contribution cost them about $1. If MoveOn members were to do this in large numbers to every Republican running for office, we're talking about millions of dollars in lost campaign funds. I hope MoveOn will encourage all it's 2 million members start contributing to the cause. Before they know what hit them, the Republicans will be out millions.

I can't help but like the Idea but it would just lower us down to the level of dirty political tricks the likes of the Tricky Dick Nixon campaign
Humm I'm tempted to try it would it be illegal?

1. It will take them 1 hour to recode the website to require a minimum
donation, if one is not already implemented.

I think it's better to sent $100 to Roy Moore. :)

Next idea....

2. But what happens when the Republicans catch on and do the same thing?
Who would go bankrupt first? My guess is that the Democratic party would.

4. This idea originated with Republicans
I recall seeing Freepers mention this idea a long, long time ago. I think it was in the context of donations to Bill Clinton's Presidential Library shortly before the expiration of his first term rather than through campaign contributions, but the general idea appears to be the same.

Personally, I prefer taking the high-road to sustain my view of my own moral superiority, but I don't have a serious problem with those who decide meet the opposition on their own level. Republicans have been playing dirty tricks since Nixon, and "karma" seems to not be catching up with them.
