Let's NOT go there.

I think VP is out because of Hillary's damage. Barack is going to have to pick someone whose resume is above question. I think Bill Richardson is practically a lock for the spot with his foreign policy cred and Hispanic heritage.

166. Except that Clark can't be secretary of defense.
By federal statute, the Def. Sec. has to have been a civilian for at least 10 years. Clark retired from the Army in 2000. He's not eligible for that position until 2010, unless Congress makes an exception.

I get so tired of writing that.

Oh - and I don't miss John Edwards.

obama has twice the cajones. people seem to forget he's from the south side.

i also think -- as hillary's failed attempts at health care show simply "fighting" often times doesn't get anything done.

hillary is shrill -- and will engage in whatever tactics it takes -- i will give you that -- but that is not the same thing as cajones.

My guess is you mean the Kenai Peninsula, south of Anchorage, which is world class salmon fishing -- or are they going to fly out someplace? Denali is the national park, and there's no fishing to speak of up there. I'm sure your husband and his friends will have a marvelous time, and what a great wife you are! :)

42. I Haven't Stopped Missing John Edwards! I Rarely Post Over Here Anymore...
but saw his name and KNEW I had to say something. As I've said so many, many times before... America MISSED IT'S CHANCE!

I won't bother with a list of reason, it's only important to so many of us who are still LOYAL to him! There's been a big hole in my life since he's gone and I search for something to keep me going in the political ring. Yes, we still have our Edwards people, but NOTHING is the same!

And what I've been seeing here at DU is more than DEPRESSING! It's hard to put into words how I feel about what is going on these days, but it sure doesn't feel "good!"

I SURELY DO MISS JOHN EDWARDS! Things don't smell quite right around here either... so much vitriol, it makes me wonder what happened and why Democrats have become so vile. For me he stayed above the fray and I used to love to contribute to his positive upbeat message and his optimism about what he felt "we the people" should be doing for the good of OUR country!

JMHO!

I will say that YOU are better than I about this, because at least YOU are leaning toward one of the two!

Maybe I need a 2X4 upside my head, I just haven't felt it yet! I look at each one and I feel so un-inspired! Many people I talk to have been saying that John McCain IS going to win simply because the Democrats won't STOP fighting! And to say it's ONLY Hillary is ridiculous to me... Obama has tentacles all over the place and I'm not fooled by what MSM is feeding the public. But I can SEE how Clinton is acting and that feels bad too!!

we should be nuisances to them all, this is turning out to be a class war, them against us. Let's give it to them, call them, e-mail them and tell them to throw these bums out. Please.

107. IF I THOUGHT That Doing What You Suggest Would REALLY Help
I would be in with all fours!! But I can't tell you how many letters I've written, how many petitions I've signed and how many PHONE CALLS I've made (on my dime) and I don't think they even bothered with any of it!

It's going to take a BOSTON TEA PARTY to shake them up! But that ain't gonna happen either. We are NOW at the point where too many people can't AFFORD to make a trip to where there MIGHT be a BIG REVOLUTION! If only we could band together in our own communities to "do something" then they might take notice. I KNOW ONE THING FOR SURE... Bill Nelson is DEAD MEAT to me! I wish someone would come in a run against him and kick HIS ASS OUT! I couldn't stand to think of K. Harris (Cruella) so I voted for him again. The other Democrat ran as a Indie and that wasn't going to get it. I didn't trust what Cruella might do, sooooooooooooo it was Nelson!

America is on the brink of some serious S--T coming down the pike, or so I feel.

78. I haven't posted much either..
as you can see by the number of posts! I very rarely posted before and only came out of lurking in July after 3 years.
I miss John and Elisabeth so much, almost like a family death or something. I've tried to get behind the other two, and I go back and forth in my support, I have never been this fickle with anybody in politics in my life!! I miss that feeling the Edwards' gave me, that feeling meant for me, I could finally feel secure for my daughter's future. Now I'm unsure, and that scares me. I just keep feeling that there is an ulterior motive behind these primaries. The next elected President, will have a hell of a big mess to clean up and the right-wing will blame and harass whoever gets in office to smear the already browbeaten dems. That scares me even more. John Edwards could have handled it, I hope the other two can.

82. I'm Glad You Have "Hope" Because I NEVER Use THAT Word Anymore1
I, like you am VERY AFRAID of what is happening and I so WISH I could support the other two, but even though I tried I'm unable to "feel" comfortable with them and I'm not even fickle, I'm downright UPSET! I realize others here don't support me regarding this and they WILL vote for one of the others, but I don't really think it will make ANY difference.

I've said many times that there has been too much "behind the scenes" hijinks going on to suit me and John Edwards was the only one who meant anything to me. He was positive, he really seemed to care and unless I'm the WORST judge of character in the world he seemed HONEST!

As a long time activist, and one who talks with many people, my impression that more and more people are SCARED AND WORRIED about what this country is and WILL be doing! There are days I get up and can't get happy about much of anything and I consider myself luckier than some. I don't have lots of money, but I do own a home and I can pay my bills... but it's gotten much more difficult to stretch my budget and I have looked closely at my financial situation! My husband and I had committed to going to our class reunion and now I wish we hadn't because it will cost quite a few pennies to go from Florida to Texas. Then I have a family reunion in NM that is giving me heartburn, but I can't NOT go there unless I break a leg!

But MY PROBLEMS are nothing compared to so many others. I have always tried to be helpful to others and it makes me feel like a jerk that I can't do it anymore. I want this feeling to GO AWAY, but it just won't!

It's a real shame and "we the people" will pay. I wanted to REVOLT several years ago, and I mean Revolution Revolt, but many said I was NUTS... but now I wonder if things would be so bad had we actually banned together and shouted... NO MORE, we will take NO MORE!!

Sorry, guess I'm in one of those "bad moods" today, they come and go!

77. Here's a piece of JRE trivia for ya!
I found this accidentally when I was looking for something else. This is from 2004:

DISOBEDIENT ELECTOR GETS LITTLE NOTICE

On December 13, one of the Minnesota Democratic presidential electors did not vote for John Kerry. Instead, he or she voted for John Edwards for president, as well as for vice-president. Edwards is the first person to receive an electoral vote for both president and vice-president since 1872, when B. Gratz Brown received 18 for president, and 47 for vice-president.<snip>

Neither the New York Times nor the Washington Post mentioned what happened in Minnesota. No one knows which elector was "unfaithful," since the votes were secret. <snip>

My county convention is this weekend and I'm an Edwards delegate. I was excited about it, but now it's just kind of depressing.

To say that this primary season is a disappointing mess is an understatement. Please God, can we put the genie back in the bottle and make it against the rules to declare candidacy until 3 months prior to the first caucus/primary - and can we set a hard and fast date for that primary/caucus to not be before February???? Please???? This election process is just way too insanely long, drawn out, expensive and back-biting.

Clinton and Obama have devolved into a nasty donkey-fight that is just pathetic to watch. I have not been a fan of either of them the whole time, but now I'm just disgusted with them both. We're screwed.

I miss Edwards and Gore both. Grown-ups who have a clue about what's going on and what needs to be done - who address the REAL ISSUES.

Here is a thread about John Edwards and ALMOST every reply is POSITIVE and STILL garners so very very much interest!

I think this SAYS IT ALL!! Most of us here at DU really DID want him to win, he won most of the polls, he won almost all of the Debates and YET... he's GONE and took our hearts with him!

I see others here who post his picture and it's difficult for me to look at them without a lump in my throat. The one of him & Elizabeth together is really "fine" and I just sit and wonder WHY!

So John & Elizabeth if you are "peeking" in here... so many of us still LOVE YOU & Elizabeth!

168. WOW! C-A-W... That HURT!! What A Great Song Though & Maybe They
are at peace to some extent. However, America is the worse for it! I mostly connect with Jackson Browne and some of his songs about America. Two I like especially well are "I Am A Patriot" and "Lives In The Balance" which aren't necessarily about Edwards BUT THEY ARE about America.

I'm sure you noticed that Jackson Browne was at several of his rallies and so was Kevin Bacon as well as John Mellencamp!! But Jackson has ALWAYS been top tier for me! I tuned into him when he had his hit SONG "RUNNING ON EMPTY" which doesn't exactly connect politically, but he's written some very good ones.

Thanks for the link, I MUST send it along to others! And thank you for this thread. WE, those of us who have banded together since FOREVER, really know and understand what America has lost. As I've said many times before.... AMERICA MISSED IT'S CHANCE!

And for the life of me, I just can't get off the Edwards band-wagon, and I've been UNABLE to warm up to the other two. I'm not a bad Democrat, I just don't like how it ALL WENT DOWN!

LOVE & PEACE!!!

He gave me a lot of hope.

The media did not give him the time, they spent it all on Hillary and Obama, and when they did mention John it was to comment on his campaign saying something negative about the other two. If they would have reported on his message I think more people would have gotten it and supported him.

He would be good for this country, and might have made a difference. Not that Hillary or Obama would not make a difference, but I feel John would have fought hard for change.

125. America missed having a great president who would have truly brought change.
What are we doing? We are considering between one or the other corporate candidate. The corporate candidates don't work for the people, they work for the corporate-elite.

John Edwards would have been the peoples' president.

Thanks for giving it your time and your enthusiastic energy John, we miss you :hi:

132. Draft JE, could it happen? (Please say it could be!)

I feel our best choice was taken from us. I resent the fact that both HC and BO were thrust upon us with no option. If the media had covered JE, there would be no question now about who was the best choice. It would be obvious that he would beat the pants off any Repub and work for all of us. This old granny has had it. I really don't believe in either BO or HC. For different reasons too complicated to elaborate. I feel my choice was taken from me by the media. They got their way but their horse is coming in last.

I haven't felt so down hearted in an election since...Hell, I have never felt this sad and apathetic in any election since Kucinich and Edwards dropped out. I just can't care which of the two that are left wins, there is NO difference.

People here at DU talk about a "dissapointing primary", as if this is only about the primary and not about the next four or eight years. I just feel like there is nothing to be hopeful about.

I miss John.

And he IS one damn handsome man, too!

like many of you do, the only way we can wrap our heart around the future is if John Edwards is in it in a big way, AG would do nicely, I'd also feel real good about VP...somebody tell the media two-some. Maybe SNL will come up with a new skit. ;)

148. I miss Edwards too and I'm pretty unbiased
because I've been non-committed! But you'd have to be nuts not to notice that since he dropped out, this primary has spiralled the drain and become a spiteful, superficial forced death march to Denver. We'll never talk about the real issues with this joke of a "race." Race to what??

But i remember what he said to us
when he announced he was stepping down.

" We are about to make history".

I believe that.

Either one of our candidates would make a hell of a
better president that McCain.
I don't underestimate McCain, just look where he
was six months ago. Now he's the Repubs candidate.

I miss John and know that no one comes close to what
he stood and fought for. :(

But I do know that a part of his platform still lives.

:)

158. Oh, my God!
I miss him so!

After working our asses off all our adult lives, we are standing right on the edge, thisclose to losing everything, including our home, because of medical bills. We are becoming that tritest of cliches, the family who has to choose between paying for medicine or paying the mortgage or buying groceries. Soon enough, that question will answer itself because we won't be able to see the doctor to get the prescriptions anyway.

I'm not a fool. I realize John Edwards couldn't have made his health care reforms a reality in time to save us, but I truly believe he could have and would have made things better for so many to follow. I would have felt so much better about the world my nephews will grow up to live in.

His decision to drop out of the race is this country's loss. Truly devastating.

Nobody on that stage can match the style and elegance of John Edwards. I still contend that he would have been the best out of everybody against the likes of McLame.

John Edwards is the candidate who made this election interesting to me. He's the one who got me involved this year. I'm proud to have supported his candidacy, and proud to have fought on his behalf. I'm selective about who receives my time and money. Only John Edwards was worth it.

This Presidential election has turned from being exciting to being dull. I have decided to support local / state races.

I miss John soooo much! I have tried to get behind another candidate since John left... but I can't. My heart is just not into it anymore. I just found out that JE's name was removed from the NC ballot. Grrrr! If I can't write him in, I'll just pass on president and vote my concience down ticket.

169. Just finally got my car magnet today
It was back ordered when my other Edwards loot came. I wrote the Edwards store and asked if I could still get one, and it arrived today, along with some buttons as "keepsakes" they called them. Well, my magnet is not just a keepsake, it's going on the car. I don't care if he's not in the race, he's my candidate and I'm proud of him (and Elizabeth).

This whole campaign is too depressing to think about anymore. I'd have to flip a coin to make a decision on voting for one of the two anointed candidates, one is as bad as the other.
