Isn't it ironic?!

Then Clark, Edwards, Hilary Rodham Clinton met three of my criteria.

:D

That's a very nice little survey. Having to limit choices to 5 gets you thinking.

10. Pretty dumb that Landrieu isn't one of the possibilities listed
Even though Kerry's campaign has confirmed that she is in consideration.

Yet they have Sharpton, Braun and Kucinich

I left foreign policy and national security experience, also military experience on all 4 tries and came up with Wes all four times on top.

At least she was when did it just now. Maybe she wasn't before and they added her, but she's definitely there now.

15. My ideal veep is from two places at once
Southerner
Midwest
Foreign Policy experience
Hispanic
Battleground State

- Clark, Graham, Nelson, and Richardson all tied that way.

So I replaced Southerner and Midwest with Non-Politician and Military service, and whaddya know, Clark came out on top ;)

Kerry would be stupid not to pick him. :)

Southerner
From a Battleground State
Live or Work Outside the Beltway
Non-politician
Military Service
Good Fundraiser
Name Recognition
National Campaign Experience
Foreign and National Security Expertise

Sounds good to me!

17. This is dumb
Most people who have a preferred VP candidate know enough about them to rig the results. They could've done something a bit more advanced than that.

22. Clark and Graham then Richardson, Dean, Kerrey, Clinton, Bayh,,
Graham and Clark met four of my criteria. Bayh, Clinton, Dean, Kerrey Richardson three.

Graham's my top pick because he combines foreign policy knowledge with domestic experience. Clark's missing the domestic issues knowledge but is very strong on defense issues. Both were against the Iraq war from the get go which is very important to me. Both are from battleground states. Graham's state carries more electoral votes.

In the second tier Richardson got both foreign policy and domestic experience. He offers regional and ethnic diversity. Dean's been the greatest critic of the Iraq war and while lacking foreign policy experience has been dead on right on most foreign policy issues. Unfortunately he's a New England liberal. Kerrey's now in antiwar camp but he's got too much baggage from Vietnam. Clinton's a lightning rod and has been consistently pro war. I'm afraid I don't know much about Evan Bayh--guess I should learn more.

Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 05:11 PM by in_cog_ni_to
a very conservative Dem. :( He's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too conservative for my taste. I don't think he'll be VP...at least I hope not. Wes Clark is by far the best choice that Kerry could make. What Clark doesn't know on the domestic front (which is very little, IMCPO) Kerry makes up for. Clark has a Masters Degree in Economics. He KNOWS domestic issues very well. He's HIGHLY intelligent and graduated #1 in his class at West Point. He's a fast learner too. ;)

How does General Wesley Clark compare to legendary West Point Generals? See for yourself.

1. General Robert E. Lee - Class of 1829 #2 in class of 46
(Civil War)
2. General Ulysses S. Grant - Class of 1843 #21 in class of 39
(Civil War)
3. General John J. Pershing - Class of 1886 #30 in class of 76
(World War I)
4. General Douglas MacArthur - Class of 1903 #1 in class of 94
(World War II + Korea)
5. General George S. Patton -Class of 1909 #46 in class of 153
(World War II)
6. General Dwight Eisenhower - Class of 1915 #61 in class of 164
(World War II)
7. General William Westmoreland - Class of 1936 #112 in class of 276
(Vietnam)
8. General Norman Schwarzkopf - Class of 1956 #43 in class of 480
(Dessert Storm)
9. General Wesley Clark - Class of 1966 #1 in class of 579
(NATO/Kosovo)

Definitely one of the smartest generals in U.S. history.

and it doesn't even portray Union Support accurately. My local endorsed Clark and many union people I talked to either had Clark first, or second to Gephardt.

25. They've got Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D - AR) listed.
I really think they should pull her name from the list. I'm a lifelong Dem and will have a very hard time making the mark by her name.

As a VP candidate she would turn off half the base and might MIGHT bring in 10% of the independents. She's just not worth the risk.

30. Graham
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 05:51 PM by ih8thegop
My criteria:

Gubernatorial Experience - I believe we should have a member of Congress and a Governor on the ticket. Graham has experience as both.

Battleground State - Hey, it's not automatic, but it could help, especially if he or she is popular. Look at Graham.

Good fundraiser - Hey, it helps, though money, as we all know, doesn't win elections.

Foreign/Defense Expertise - Kerry has a lot of experience in foreign affairs. More than, say, Bush and Cheney combined in 2000. The more of that we have, though, the better. Why? Look which party is seen as soft on defense.
