The Electoral College
Anyone think that Bush could win the popular vote but lose the Electoral vote?

1. I don't know, but I think....
the more times this type of outcome happens in favor of either party, the more outcry there will be against the electoral college system. If it happens enough to both sides, it won't be dismissed as sour grapes anymore.

3. No. I bet Kerry wins the popular vot but electoral vote is up for graps.
Kerry will have huge majorities in NY and CA, just like Gore.

4. Not likely
Several of the Red states are smaller states where the vote is disproportional compared to larger states. In these smaller states (Wyoming for example), a vote is worth more than in a larger state due to the fact that the smaller state gets three electoral votes no matter what.

Most of the Blue states are larger more populous states that are under counted by the electoral college compared to the smaller states. I simply can not imagine a scenario where Bush would win the popular vote and lose the electoral vote.

7. I would love for that to happen,
but I can not imagine that scenario.

8. no

Basically, Republican strength is more diluted in general and Democratic more focussed on cities. And then the dominantly Republican states are on the whole smaller populationwise but larger in number than the Democratic-voting ones.
