Clinton's Charity not listed on Senate Disclosure Forms
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/26/AR2007022601542.html

February 27th, 2007

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former president Bill Clinton have operated a family charity since 2001, but she failed to list it on annual Senate financial disclosure reports on five occasions.

>>

The foundation has enabled the Clintons to write off more than $5 million from their taxable personal income since 2001, while dispensing $1.25 million in charitable contributions over that period.

Clinton's spokesman said her failure to report the existence of the family foundation and the senator's position as an officer was an oversight.

>>

At least three beneficiaries were from the Middle East, where the former president worked to forge an elusive peace agreement during the 1990s. They include $50,000 to the King Hussein Foundation, named in honor of the late Jordanian king, who was a key player in Clinton peace talks; $50,000 to American Friends of Yitzhak Rabin, honoring the assassinated Israeli prime minister; and the American Friends of Peres Center, honoring former Israeli prime minister Shimon Peres.

>>

Such omissions deprive the public of the right to scrutinize their political leaders' financial dealings and identify possible conflicts of interest, the former chief of disclosure for the Federal Election Commission said.

Kent Cooper, who retired after two decades overseeing the FEC's public disclosure office, said congressional ethics committees have not enforced the ethics disclosure requirements forcefully. As a result, he said, candidates "know there is no great consequences, and so the habit has developed that people dismiss an omission as a clerical error, when in fact it is a crucial piece of the puzzle about a member's finances that is being hidden."

Well, perhaps this is why it's taking Hillary such a long time to get her taxes from '06 together.... they probably have quite a bit they still need to clean up and hide before they can release them. :eyes:

5. Ohh.. there's plenty to see, it's just not likely to be revealed..
without a crowbar, a gun to the head.. or a few threats. "A Transparent Government" does NOT apply to Mrs. Clinton.

9. Transparent government - that is a key difference in their positions -
yet the M$M continues to act like their positions are essentially the same.

Sigh.

6. I specifically put the DATE in my OP - not trying to hide anything...
But, the story was written in '07 and this was in regards to '06, and those are the tax returns we're still impatiently waiting for - so I believe the irony is that this story was written a year ago, and yet here we still sit with Clinton hiding these records. And, after looking at this article.. there seems to be an inkling that there is quite a bit that they want to continue to hide.

But, no worries.. i know.. this kind of stuff is only unacceptable to a candidate other then your own. If Clinton had released her tax returns last year and Obama was still holding out not releasing his.. you'd be quietly sitting by, not caring at all. :eyes:

13. Clinton Library Sells Secret Donor List
Clinton Library Sells Secret Donor List
November 19, 2007 1:47 PM

Avni Patel and Marcus Baram Report

Three years after the William J. Clinton Presidential Library opened its doors, the list of donors who helped the former president build his $165 million complex remains a secret from the public.

Yet the Blotter on ABCNews.com has learned that the Clinton Foundation sold portions of the list through a data company headed by a longtime friend and donor.

"The fact that they've sold the list and then turned around and said that these names must be kept anonymous completely undercuts their argument," said Sheila Krumholz of the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington, D.C.-based government watchdog group that tracks the influence of money in politics.

Late in the day, the Clinton Foundation responded to the story with a statement saying, "the Foundation's list included individuals who gave $100 or less in response to direct mail solicitations. Using the Walter Karl Company as its vendor, other entities could rent or exchange use of the Foundation's list. The vendor independently undertakes the mailing and does not share the actual list with other entities."

20. Clinton Foundation sold portions of the list through a data company headed by a longtime friend..
and donor... and THAT would be Info USA's president Vin Gupta (right here in Omaha, NE):

Washington: A longtime Indian-born Clinton benefactor used corporate jets to fly the former president and Hillary Rodham Clinton on business, personal and campaign trips that a lawsuit brands as wasteful company spending.

The supporter, Vinod Gupta, also secured contracts worth more than $3 million (Dh11 million) for Bill Clinton to provide consulting services to Gupta’s company, infoUSA, from 2003 through 2008, according to the suit.

Since 2002, Gupta spent $900,000 (Dh3.3 million) flying the former president to international locations on presidential foundation business and flying Hillary Clinton, a Democratic senator from New York, to political events.

Gupta has said in interviews that he is from the village of Rampur, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He attended the Indian Institute of Technology, and moved to the United States in the late 1960s.

14. You can say that again! Secrecy is her middle name isn't it?
A Woman in Charge -- Hillary's Disturbing Secrecy Problem

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/a-secret-woman-in-c_b_53725.html

By Arianna Huffington
June 25, 07

(snip)

But when it comes to the issue of secrecy and an administration operating in the shadows, there's an argument to be made that the candidate least likely to turn on the lights is Hillary Clinton. Her lifelong commitment to secrecy is one of the main themes of Bernstein's book.

"Hillary Rodham Clinton has always had a difficult relationship with the truth," writes Bernstein. "She has often chosen to obfuscate, omit, and avoid. It is an understatement by now that she has been known to apprehend truths about herself and the events of her life that others do not exactly share."

Or, as Bernstein summed it up on the Today Show, "This is a woman who led a camouflaged life and continues to."

................

And the list goes on and on and on.........
:dilemma:

17. OMG! Hillary isn't telling us all the charities she gives money to -- the horror, the horror!
I'm no CPA (especially not a wingnut one) but I don't see how the Clintons could have benefitted by forgetting to include these charitable donations on Hillary's annual Senate disclosure form.

But if Ken Starr was still in business, he'd probably find some way to indict her for it.

21. Did you even READ the article??
She managed to write off $5,000,000 while only giving $1.25 million to the charity... some charity. That may be a reason that she'd want to leave that off of her list..
