Is the 3 am red phone question relevant?
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 04:31 PM by nomad1776
Seems to me a smart President wouldn't make any sort of off the cuff half asleep decision. A good President would gather his or her top advisors, get all the needed information and come to a good decision. I would like to think that george bush hasn't been making life and death decisions and 3 in the morning all by himself.

3. I think the issue of experience is irrelevant
No one running for president has any experience being president and the chucklehead in the whitehouse now has almost eight years of "experience" and that has really worked out great. I agree. The three oclock call commercial isn't effective with me.

4. 911 happened at around 8AM
George was awake and kept reading My Pet Goat after the first plane hit.

6. "gather his or her top advisors"
Clinton claimed in a post-ad press conference that when the phone rings there is no time to speak with advisors. It's just you and your "experience". So I guess she wants us to believe that the Commander in Chief deals with crises in a bubble.

11. Short of "they just launched their nukes" or "there are hijacked planes
heading for the WTC and Pent. can we shoot them down?" There are very few crises that need that sort of on the spot decision making.

7. Only the seriously deluded buy this crap!
Unfortunately, the "terror" argument is a "gift" that keeps on giving for the candidates willing to stoop to this level. We have a LOT of seriously stupid people in our country. They fall for the lamest arguments.

If I had a few less ethics--I'd immediately try to take advantage of these misguided folks. They are ripe for the picking!

9. The point of the question is, of course, relevant . . .
And so is the question of excercising good judgment that would keep the red phone from ringing in the firs place.

Obama wins on both counts!

10. The only experience relevant to being President
Is actually BEING THE PRESIDENT. I saw this on one of the news shows the other day, and I think it is so true.

14. Why does it only matter if it is 3 am?
Indeed, it is just a stupid, fast to say, jingoistic question. Advertising works.
My take and question:

17. Keep it simple, repeat it enough, play scary music, it'll sell.
Give it an immediate emotional gut reaction and people won't stop and think about it but merely react. Which president would you wanna drink a beer with? (what the bloody hell does THAT have to do with anything?) Who do you want to answer the *RED* phone at 3 am? (again, lame, cliched, trite, wtf).

But, advertising works.

19. I think it is relevant. A president needs to be ready 24-7 yea
but I still wouldn't trust Hillary picking up the phone. And obviously it won't be her sitting at the desk in full makeup and pearls with reading glasses like she tries to portray.
