Hillary's ad: debate footage doctored to make Obama blacker
From what I can tell the Clinton campaign made numerous changes to make Obama "look blacker." I have no idea if this has been posted already or if I will get locked--I also have no idea if this is really true (although it sure looks like it).

1. How black should he look then?
On a scale of 1-10.

3. Exactly as black as he really is.

11. Every TV set is different, so perhaps we need a gamma rating for his blackness
Just so we know the signal is correct even if someone's TV is set wonky and he looks too black.

20. Split hairs all you like
It doesn't change the fact that Hillary is a race baiting war monger who isn't fit to carry Obama's bags.

32. It has NOTHING to do with what a TV set looks like
I've been doing digital video production for years and the ONLY way to have video look darker than the source it came from is to tamper with the darkness filters in digital video editing software. To make video look darker, you have to intentionally use a darkening filter and apply it to the video.

It has nothing to do with printers, toner, eyesight, TV settings or even compression/decompression schemes. It has to do with a production staffer and someone working with that company to alter the color.

I welcome any video editors/producers out there to give the exact, reproducible steps that would darken a video without using darkening filters.

5. Exactly as he is. Why add or subtract color to anyone running for office?
What is the F point of doing it, other than to harm them I mean?

12. As I mentioned before, every negative ad shows the candidate in poor light
Also with higher contrast, perhaps in black and white, grainy, lower contrast, and so on. And how do you know the screen grab was from a standardized signal? Do you have a grab from the master tape? Didn't think so.

Anyway, I don't think Obama will care about looking blacker, why would you?

21. Whoever changed it did it to appeal to the KKK, obviously. Why else? Can you
think of a reason why they would do this if not to appeal to the KKK, or hope to? As for negative ads being doctored up, only in the U.S., which has one fucked up election system. Or are you going to argue with that too, because, well, it's your "thing" to argue?

2. Just curious why nobody has mentioned that Clinton's face is also widened and darkened?
I mean, if her campaign was intentionally making him appear 'more black' then were they also trying to make her appear 'more black' as well?

(I posted the same question in an identical thread just a few minutes ago)

24. You are aware that the ad doesn't show footage of Clinton from that debate, aren't you?
The only footage of Clinton appears to have been shot specifically for that ad, so it is quite difficult to make the argument that it is also doctored footage from something else.

6. She won't, it's all she has. She doesn't have the popular, the most states or the delegates.
All she has is the kitchen sink.

And she will sink the party if that's what it takes for her to get back into power.

23. She's going to sabotage the Democratic nominee.
She can't win now. She will be behind in pledged delegates by the convention, and the super's aren't going to prop her up by negating the popular vote winner. So she will claim victim-hood, and attempt to install McCain. And those people who show up on DU, and who proudly support the Clintons more than the Democratic Party, will join her.

8. How many pictures
of Hillary Clinton that was posted on the DU alone, not to mention other forums, clearly put up pics of Hillary in the least flattering light. Your kind of OP borders on stupidity, but keep posting your "unbecoming" pics of Hillary, that's ok. Last night Charlie Rose had a debate on the primaries in TX, OH, RI, VT. They ran parts of Obama's speech last night, and the guests and Charile Rose suggested Obama simply did not look good. The lighting was bad, the backdrop was bad, and he looked bad. So now go to Charlie Rose's forum and start bitching to him. Ok.

her campaign. Anyone doing this sucks and this is unconscienable. I hope the press tracks this back to the source and bitchslaps them.

15. Exactly, and I think he looks good blacker.
But then again, I like black people, so perhaps he looks better to me for appearing blacker. I can't wait for some black folk of Nigerian descent to chime in and complain he's not black enough!

14. Desaturation ( which would account for
the perceived darkness) is commonly used in ad stylizing. I don't see BO as looking blacker, rather having less color. As for the distortion, I can't help but wonder if it wasn't due to wide screen formatting. I know that much of what I watch looks different on various TVs in my home. Is it possible that this really wasn't racially motivated?

I doubt Obama will be complaining about appearing "blacker". Who would? Only a racist, that's who.

Perhaps there are issues with color balance. Either that or he's secretly an Oompa Loompa.
