The Candidate is unelectable, plagued by troubles, and polling poorly
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 12:30 PM by LuminousX
Democratic officials are worried

"The halls of Congress are filled with Democrats wringing their hands over their prospective nominee," Sawyer said.
...
Democratic media adviser David Garth similarly worries that "every time I think he's had his last wound he starts to bleed again and something else gets discovered.
...
"There are a lot of people who wish someone else would get into this race," said a Senate Democratic official.
...
Said one key strategist in the campaign committee, "We're following the Napoleonic maxim: Never interfere with the enemy when they are in the process of destroying themselves."

1. Sounds like Bill Clinton
Your link doesn't work, but I remember those things being said about Bill Clinton during the 1992 primary campaign by the party establishment.

Hard to believe that Clinton was the outsider in 1992!

9. History repeats itself
It seems the Democratic officials are always looking for Superman. They raise their expectations so high that they are always suffering buyer's regret.

12. Do you think this is the only article quoting Democrats against Clinton?
Address the historicals. Why were Democratic officials talking about wanting someone else in the race? Why was Tsongas considering re-entering?

13. This is a scream! Final paragraph:
snip>
Yet there are some in the Democratic Party who think that the way things are going, the Republicans won't have to do much to run a successful campaign against Clinton. Said one key strategist in the Bush-Quayle campaign committee, "We're following the Napoleonic maxim: Never interfere with the enemy when they are in the process of destroying themselves."
