As a lifelong Pennsylvanian
who has been active in politics here at every level for forty years, I am frightened to death about what is going to occur in this state during the next six weeks.

If you think things are contentious here on DU, it's gonna split this state, particularly in the urban areas, wide open. It's already started.

God help us.

3. I'll be there
I'm taking a week vacation to work for Hillary in PA. WooHoo

Imagine what you get for 6 weeks going on for almost a year. That's NH without the nastiness of the current divide.

10. Agree-The circular firing squads are ready-If we kill each other for weeks
PA may go red in the fall.McCain runs well here in all the Rasmussen polls and Tom Ridge is his face in PA. Ridge is still popular here. An Obama/Hillary cage match is exactly what the PA state GOP wants.

I was looking forward to the "Iowa Treatment".

Now, all I am seeing is 7 weeks of scorched earth, leaving our lovely green state nothing but a smoldering shit stain on the map.

Worst fucking practice day I've had in years and things are not getting better. I can't tell what's worse MSRNC or the thought of what's going to occur here for weeks. And weeks.

For those readers...Yael happens to be Ed Zachary correct.

19. You will survive, my Keystone friend
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 08:33 PM by Penndems
:) :hi:

I worked on Ed Rendell's '02 gubernatorial campaign, beginning with the primary. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Bob Casey, Jr., but that race was, without a doubt, THE most contentious, the absolute worse political situation I've ever been in. After it was over, I swore that never again would I work on a campaign that pitted one Democrat against another. It's too physically and emotionally draining. Better to keep my powder dry, and save my energy for my candidate's GOP challenger.

Anyone who survived that primary can definitely deal with this one. It'll be vicious as hell, though, and won't do a damn thing to enhance the reputation of the Democratic Party.

on edit: correct typo

Those who've followed my posts over the years will recall that Casey Jr.'s Senate campaign HQ was in my building. Got a lot of looks into the interior of a campaign. Frightening here in PA...lots of Alabama here...

Racist, evil...and those of the middle-of-the-road Dems! You should see the Rethugs!

 sort of...

25. I've followed yours, and I'm sure you've followed mine, LOL
We're both veterans of that infamous '02 primary. Unforgettable, to say the least. My only regret is that Allen Kukovich lost the Lieutenant Governor slot. What a fine LG he would've made. Pennsylvania would have been well-served by his stewardship.

There are so many memories of that race I'll never forgot. Watching the Casey campaign implode under Bob Shrum's management is one of them, but for all the wrong reasons. It was literally too painful for me to watch. Thank God then-Auditor General Casey went on to become Senator Casey. That was a sweet victory, and he deserved to be elected to Congress.

Three political lessons I learned from Ed Rendell:

1. Run every race as if you're twenty points down - especially if you're twenty points up.

2. Take the high road, and stick to the issues. Let your opponent roll in the mud.

3. Don't take losing too personally. You'll live to fight and win another day.

******************************************************************

What a guy. One of the best candidates and campaigns I've ever worked for.

23. I remember a story about the Carter-Kennedy primary in South Philadelphia
one candidate's supporters simply stormed the polling place when it opened and stole the voting books, so nobody could vote.
