Exit polls in Ohio show that the less education you have
the more likely you are to vote for Hillary. The more you have, the more likely you are to vote for Obama. Hmmmm....

57. Bush was a legacy who barely scraped through with a "gentleman's C' average.
And he hated Yale because all the regular (brilliant) students and faculty ridiculed him. Lots of Bushes went to Yale - they were known as "not too bright."

college degrees but are totally oblivious about what happens in the real world like "How much does it cost to make a meal for a family of four, how much to you have to save out of your paycheck to be able to put gas in your car and still make the house payment, you know the easy stuff!

133. I think I know what you are saying, but I'm saying (and I'm not knocking you here) is that a degree
does not make one a better judge of character. I guess what I mean to say is just because a person doesn't have a degree and votes for Hillary doesn't mean they are not intelligent, just as having a degree and voting for Obama does not mean a person is more intelligent. That is being presumptuous to say the least, and again I congratulate you on your success!

what the media has been saying about a number of people with degrees, not about a number of somehow "better" people -- whatever that would be.

lol

A degree can't make you smart or good or right. Although, it can make you more stupid. lol :)

Do you remember that? It used to appear instead of "loading" at the bottom of the screen.

I can see how this information could be used by someone to do what you suggest. panaderO didn't do that here.

And, what do those numbers mean, anyway?

Eta: I guess, tonight we'd get into a snit if redheads voted for Hillary but Radio Flyer owners voted for Obama. And, btw, degrees don't really translate into a higher income any more so the whole class thing doesn't work either. These are just numbers. Cats vote for Hillary. Parrots vote for Obama. On Tuesdays. Between noon and five! :)

Not in the OP who was reporting, not opining.

I haven't opined, either, for that matter.

Have you read this thread? Apparently all people who go to college are elitist assholes who vote for Obama.

And it's amazing that people can't distinguish between reporting and opining and that they are so quick to attack.

Do you know what the OP thinks of this report? Have you asked? No. You're attacking me as if I've taken a position.

Really. That's just unnecessary.

53. When something is common knowledge, I don't feel the need to link it, but:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html

Here it depends on how you break it down. Bush won by margins larger than the national average among voters with some college or were college graduates. Kerry cleaned up among those with post-graduate degrees. The vote among college graduates was tied, but throw in those with "some college" and then you end up with the result I am talking about.

Total college graduates (including post-grads):

Kerry 49%
Bush 49%

edit: Those with advanced degrees voted Democratic 55% to 44% in 2004.

So much for the "common knowledge" (aka a myth) that the more educated vote republican. But thanks for spreading republican talking points.

Having less formal education doesn't actually make one a better judge of who will best serve your interests.

But what's the point? As many people have pointed out, "education level" is a mixed bag. Also, if people with less education are favoring Hillary then of course people with more education are favoring Obama — it's zero-sum game.

The question is "so what"? Presented as it was, it seemed to imply that "smart people vote for Obama."

This is obviously true, but you can see why it would cause a stir.

(Oh, did you see I added an image to my last post :))

Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 07:22 PM by Bucky
The only exception is those people with post graduate degrees, but that's a very small fraction of the electorate.

Plus, those are exit polls from 2006, a low-watermark year for Republicans. Exit polls are way less scientific than random sampling provides. I've worked in market research for 10 years. I'm quite familiar with how demographics trend. Republicans are stronger among college educated demographics than among high school diploma/GED holders.

aside. It is belittling. It reminds me of why people don't ultimately care about other people. They justify it. They're just (fill in the blank...poor, black, illegal alien, etc etc the list goes on). How disturbing to see this kind of thought over a primary that we are hoping brings us a Democratic president.

175. Not at all - it says that those with less education TEND toward supporting Hillary,
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 11:25 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and those with more education TEND toward supporting Obama.

That's all it says. It does NOT say that people who vote for Hillary are uneducated. The only conclusion in that direction that could be drawn is that people who vote for Hillary TEND to be LESS educated than Obama supporters. In general. As a TREND; as a TENDENCY. NOT as an absolute fact in all specific cases.

It is neither divisive nor insensitive to report on a poll - it is merely a factual reporting of a poll result. And before someone misreads that last sentence, yes, I realize polls can be error - I am not saying that this particular poll result is utterly and universally factual in all cases at all times; I AM saying that in the particular poll that was conducted, the result was as stated above; that is, the results that were stated above were stated factually.

Jesus, people, take a goddamn math class and learn math, especially some fucking statistics and probability, and then take a fucking class in logic.

It might help to take a class or two in basic reading comprehension as well.

Oh, and a class in geometry - that will really help in thinking logically and learning that just because p implies q doesn't mean that q implies p, or that not q implies p, or that not p implies q, or that p also therefore implies s, t, u and v.

Christ.

Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 10:58 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and yet get all snippity and up in arms because you've apparently insulted the non-intelligent.

Ya can't have it both ways, people.

Pandar0, I'm sorry that so many asshats and oilbrains decided to come into this thread and read judgment, innuendo, and insult in your very objective reporting of mere facts.

It's fucking hilarious: say that college educated Democrats favor Obama over Clinton (which as you reported is merely a fact in Ohio, based on polling), and people go apeshit, thinking you've made some sort of subjective comment on people's intelligence.

I'm dying laughing at the idiocy of so many in this thread, while at the same time crying that so many are so goddamned dumb that they can't even tell a fact from vitriol.

It's like if I said "Some bears eat meat" and then half of DU responds with, "So you think people should be legally required to offer their children to bears? Why stop there? Why not just kill everyone?"

Completely out of context, completely emotional, completely bullshit.

If it means anything, you have my sympathies and you have my support.

People who make value judgments about facts are, sadly, probably people who aren't very educated.

187. Cults On Campus

Cults Prey On New Students' Feelings Of Alienation, Experts Say

http://www.rickross.com/reference/icc/ICC307.html

San Diego 10 News/November 12, 2002

San Diego -- The problem of cults is plaguing college campuses across the country, and in San Diego it's no different, 10News reported.

Young people in college are at a stage in life where they're searching for meaning and their place in life, 10News reported, and many of them are being recruited into organizations that many people believe people are cults.

Former University of California, San Diego student "Lucy" told 10News that she found herself wrapped up in a group that she has since come to believe was a cult.

"I was new in college. I didn't know a lot of people," she said. "Part of the whole brainwashing thing was that I was going to go to hell if I didn't do everything they expected me to do."...
