Obama supporters: Would you ever not vote for Hillary because on her supporters?
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 02:13 PM by George_Bonanza
There is only one scenario in which I would not vote for Hillary: if she won the nomination by forcing the validation of the results of Michigan and Florida, and/or coercing superdelegates to support the candidate with the fewer votes, fewer states won, and fewer pledged delegates. Even if she smears Obama like hell, I'd still probably support her because dirty politicking is not new, especially if you're from the Clinton/Carville school of anything-goes. As much as I hate dirty tactics, I don't want John "100 Years" McCain in the White House. So if she wins Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico by 20 points and beats Obama, then yeah, I'd support Hillary.

But I would never ever base my decision on the fact that some Hillary supporter on DU called me a name, or that some Hillary supporter on the street swore at me. Hell, even if a Hillary supporter tried to stab me, I'd let it go because the election's not about me and my hurt feelings. This election is not for the vindication of my armchair political king/queenmaking skills. This election is about putting the person who will get us out of Iraq, end the Bush tax cuts, protect the Supreme Court from conservative takeover, etc in the White House. If my pride and ego get bruised in the process, so what? This election is not about me.

Unfortunately, some of Hillary's supporters don't seem to get that fact.

1. Hillary's managing to turn me off herself.
But I'll likely still vote for her. I still realize that Supreme Court Justice appointments
matter.

2. My problem isn't with her supporters......
...though they've been loathsome.

My problem is with her and her campaign. They are bad people, bad for the country.

3. This is a really stupid question.
Not attacking you, George.

Just remarking at how ridiculous the idea is that anybody would vote for a president out of spite because of what somebody said on an anonymous message board.

14. I've seen it posted on DU too many times to count.
I agree, it is ridiculous.

17. Naturally.
There are people with mental and emotional problems who post on DU. I don't think we should take them too seriously.

6. My problems with Hillary are based on HER past judgments and campaign tactics.
They are NOT responsible for their anonymous supporters.

They ARE responsible for their campaigns.

7. A combination of both

Obama has Hillary's supporters to thank for getting me to really look at him. I really liked what I saw and I'm sticking with him.

Hillary disgusts me more than she ever did before. If there was ever a chance of holding my nose to vote for her, it's totally out of the question now.

9. The Obama supporters are just as bad, if not worse, than the Hillary supporters.
I support neither candidate at this time.

I would never NOT support a candidate because of something someone else said about them.

That being said, I would not be happy to join the neverending chorus of Obama supporters here at DU. This isn't glee club, it's the real world and just because a candidate has the most money, it should be no indication of how fit they are to do the job of President.

15. As hard as it may be for you to believe, there ARE substantiative reasons to support Obama
And refusing to take a fair look at him out of a "cooler-than-thou" attitude towards his more lemmingesque supporters is not, well, cool.

29. I am well aware of the reasons some may feel are substantive in their support
of Obama.

However, I tend to be a realist and I am not as taken in by all the rhetoric as some.

I will not go into details at this time, as it would only result in yet another flame war.

And I couldn't possibly care less about being "cool". I don't want a cool President. I want a decent, fair, honest, ethical one.

Obama does not meet that criteria in my mind, based on facts I am comfortable with.

Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 02:22 PM by redqueen
My primary goals are to try to ensure we get non-insane-o SCOTUS justices... and electing those most likely to stop trying to ruin the environment as fast as possible.

It has nothing to do with her, her supporters, or any other kinda BS. All it requires is a recognition that the other side is worse.

18. we can't hide our true selves behind a candidate- Absolutely NO-
Who we are, comes out through our words and actions.

Hillary is not in control of anyone here, any more than Obama is.

Neither one should be held accountable for our foolish words and actions.
WE own ourselves. Sometimes I wish I could be 'repo'd' :silly:
peace~

I would be mad however if her victory was through coercion of superdelegates against the pledged delegates. But I would still vote against McCain by voting for her in the general.

then perhaps I should vote for him.

Just kidding, but what the hell was she thinking?

25. The supporters don't affect my decision making. However, when
it is obvious that supporters are spouting top down talking points from the Clinton campaign, then that does give us an indication of what the campaign is up to and what it is about. But supporters are merely messengers on that score, so they still wouldn't affect my vote.

Honestly, I am tired of the talk of whether people will vote for the nominee. People say things all the time in the heat of the moment, but once they see the Dem opposite John McCain (and really, we are not there yet, so it IS hard to imagine), this will allow most people to think more clearly.

I'd have a hard time voting for her because of her Iraq vote and then because of how Hill and Bill and Penn have campaigned. Kinda sickening.

I would not be voting for the Democratic Candidate. I would not vote at all. Not pointing fingers, I can be a bit of a meanie myself.

(I liked Edwards' supporters the best)
