Dallas Morning News: We Recommend Barack Obama
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/editorials/stories/DN-obamarec_02edi.ART.State.Edition1.46667bd.html

11:08 AM CST on Sunday, March 2, 2008

Texas Democrats have a chance to make history as they choose between two qualified presidential candidates. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton often seem to be singing from the same hymnbook, but that doesn't mean this race is a close call.

On questions of substance and leadership style, Mr. Obama is the better choice.

In sharp contrast to Mrs. Clinton's antics mocking his optimism, Mr. Obama has shown that it is possible to have both hope and intellectual heft. Her campaign has confused proximity to power with work experience, selectively taking credit for her husband's accomplishments.

At times, Obama-mania has threatened to obscure the substantive differences between the two candidates' proposed policies. A close examination shows that Mr. Obama is on the right side of several key issues.

Both senators aim to overhaul our health care system by lowering premiums and expanding subsidies. Mrs. Clinton's more mandate-centered approach could be a tougher sell, while Mr. Obama allows for more individual choice and avoids the appearance of insurance by coercion.

Both Democrats offer a significant upgrade from the current administration on environmental and energy issues. Both plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase our reliance on renewable resources. But Mr. Obama has rightly acknowledged the need to include nuclear energy in the mix; Mrs. Clinton has hedged.

2. Drip, drip, drip......for Obama
even if the MSM is trying to "shore up" Hillary but not asking her the all important question; what does your 35 years of experience actually entail in terms of accomplishments?

11. Sunday's is CNN day
b/c MSNBC takes the day off and if I want to watch what it's like inside a prison well I know where to go. I'll tell you though watching CNN-one would think that Obama is the one who has lost 11 in a row-I even heard Candy Crowley refer to the Clinton camp with an "I" as in WE-like she's a part of the campaign

7. Most papers endorse one from each party.
Shall we discuss the papers that have endorsed Hillary and their choice for Repubs? Want to go down that trail with me? I'll even hold your hand.

And hey, what say you about triangulation? You never seem to want to answer that one.

He's the Republican choice for Democratic candidate.

10. Do you have a link to that assertion or are you just spewing?
I've read otherwise; Clinton's negatives make her the ideal candidate for the rethugs to beat.

12. It is my opinion
that Obama's pandering to the Republican base -- praising Reagan, making a point of discussing his faith, criticizing 60s political activism -- makes it easy for the paper to recommend him.

Because he sounds like a Republican.

14. um, nothing you're saying bears even a passing resemblence to
fact. How Hillarian of you. He has not pandered to the Repuke base. You don't bring up getting out of Iraq and civil rights for GLBT in every single speech if you're pandering to the repuke base. Even a political neophyte or a child of 10 knows that. He has NEVER praised Reagan. Not even close. Yes, he makes a point of his faith. Kind of neccessary when your opponent and others try to torpedo you as a stealth Muslim. He has been outspoken in his support for activism. He's fighting hard against Hilly dear's good pal McCain.

Try acquainting yourself with the truth.

17. Oh no! He discusses his faith!!!!
Terror! :scared:

Seriously, we need to get over our fear of that, and damn soon.

Here's what's funny: Democrats seem to think that W talks about his faith all the time.

He doesn't. Because it's not actually important to him.

Obama does because it is actually important to him.

20. I love it
The National Journal calls Obama the "most liberal" senator of 2007, and then we get people on DU calling him a Republican.

21. Actually, it does help with recognition for a little known candidate.
That, I believe, is one of the reasons (coupled with his incredible ground game) that Obama is able to shrink Clinton leads at astonishing rates.

18. I live in the Dallas area - this is key
It is the only major newspaper in the Dallas area and many people take the dmn with them to the polling location. Sometimes, they have to put the paper away when they actually vote. But old schoolers around here just do what the DMN says.
