Toledo Blade: "Obama, For Change"
(W)e believe that Mr. Obama's inspiring life story, keen intellect, strong but quiet confidence, ready grasp of public policy issues, and his fresh and optimistic world view are what America needs after eight years of an administration that repeatedly has shown open contempt for the American people and for the Constitution.
Mr. Obama offers a breath of fresh air and new hope at a depressing time in the life of this nation. His selection would send an unmistakable signal to the world that America really may be living up to its promise of a just and truly pluralistic society.

A vote for Barack Obama is a leap of faith, given his meager experience in national governance. But the country has had a chance to size him up over a long campaign. His two books, his six-year record in the Illinois legislature, his community activism before that, and his leadership as a Harvard law student all lead to the conclusion that he is a man of substance and dignity, not just a symbol.
He offers the Democrats a shot at one of their periodic restarts, like Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy and Bill Clinton. The moment should be seized.

Barack Obama does not have as extensive a history in the glaring light of the public arena. But what he has done in his personal and professional life, and how he has so far conducted himself in his campaign, makes him the candidate most worthy of the Democrats nomination...
Barack Obama's mature, slow, steady construction of a career of public service and his clear statements about the path he wants our nation to be on make him the Democrats' best choice Tuesday.

No candidate of either party has brought the sense of excitement and hope to the process of choosing a president that Obama has. This isn't a frivolous or trivial matter. Obama's appeal to voters black and white, young and old, male and female, is a reassuring sign that ordinary citizens are saying they want politics and governance to look and sound and feel different than they have for too long.
