Ohiobama!
Toledo Blade: "Obama, For Change"

(W)e believe that Mr. Obama's inspiring life story, keen intellect, strong but quiet confidence, ready grasp of public policy issues, and his fresh and optimistic world view are what America needs after eight years of an administration that repeatedly has shown open contempt for the American people and for the Constitution.

Mr. Obama offers a breath of fresh air and new hope at a depressing time in the life of this nation. His selection would send an unmistakable signal to the world that America really may be living up to its promise of a just and truly pluralistic society.

Dayton Daily News

A vote for Barack Obama is a leap of faith, given his meager experience in national governance. But the country has had a chance to size him up over a long campaign. His two books, his six-year record in the Illinois legislature, his community activism before that, and his leadership as a Harvard law student all lead to the conclusion that he is a man of substance and dignity, not just a symbol.

He offers the Democrats a shot at one of their periodic restarts, like Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy and Bill Clinton. The moment should be seized.

Springfield News-Sun

Barack Obama does not have as extensive a history in the glaring light of the public arena. But what he has done in his personal and professional life, and how he has so far conducted himself in his campaign, makes him the candidate most worthy of the Democrats nomination...

Barack Obama's mature, slow, steady construction of a career of public service and his clear statements about the path he wants our nation to be on make him the Democrats' best choice Tuesday.

Canton Repository

No candidate of either party has brought the sense of excitement and hope to the process of choosing a president that Obama has. This isn't a frivolous or trivial matter. Obama's appeal to voters black and white, young and old, male and female, is a reassuring sign that ordinary citizens are saying they want politics and governance to look and sound and feel different than they have for too long.

Clinton has shown herself to be an able senator, with an impressive grasp of details. But she remains for many in this country a polarizing figure.

Much of that dislike undoubtedly is residual disapproval of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and his policies and performance in office. That may be unfair to her, but it remains a fact of political life.

But her own style has opened her to criticism as well. Her major public policy involvement during her husband's administration was the failed attempt to come up with a universal health care policy.

snip

A president must be able to make hard decisions but must also be able to face - even welcome - dissenting views and understand that there can be validity in the opposition.

Obama has been on the national stage for a relatively short time, but in that time he has demonstrated an ability and a willingness to work with others. He does not waste time demonizing those with different views.

4. Meanwhile, in Vermont...
Brattleboro Reformer

Clinton represents the tired old politics of the Baby Boomers, the refighting of old battles. She is the standard-bearer for the worst instincts of the Democratic Party, as exemplified by the hollow shell the party became when Bill Clinton was president.

Obama represents new blood and new energy in the political process. Whether this energy will translate into action is anyone's guess, but again, it is the difference between the slight chance of seeing change and the near certainty of seeing the status quo continue.

We are willing to take that chance. That is why the Reformer backs Barack Obama in the Vermont Democratic Primary on March 4.

10. Texas
Wichita Falls Times Record News

The choice, it seems, is to travel down a new path, a fresher, less divisive direction. Obama was thrust onto the scene during the 2004 Democratic National Convention, giving a speech that sparked a fire and transformed us back to a time when our politicians could inspire us with mere words.

Now, we need not just words, but deeds. His tenure in Washington lacks a long list of accomplishments, but his ability to spark enthusiasm, particularly among young voters, could transform apathy into action.

Obama electrifies the electorate in other parts of the country, and should do as much here in Texas.
