If the WH received Clarke's book for declassification in November
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 08:30 PM by randr
why didn't they come up with a plan for when it was released?
It seems as if "deer in headlights" is the modus operandi for all emergencies.

1. They did have a plan
It was called "Hold this until 9/11 Commission blows over, so it won't matter."

6. It was the same

9. You are right
They must have thought they could get away with not extending it.
I see a team with no plan!

2. Can you still edit, randr?
Add the "e" to his name.

They really are stupid, though. I can't imagine what they were thinking to hold that book until now.

3. They sure didn't
get their stories straight. Rice says Clarke had al these opportunities to make a fuss about Al Qaeda because he was in the meetings. Cheney says Clarke knew nothing because he was out of the loop.

Still there are plently of little sheep out there who will support BushCo not matter what. They are counting on that. IF they are sloppy once in awhile, big deal. THe sheep will follow.

4. And limbaugh told the rubes this week
that the "timing" of the release of the book was suspect and that the "government" never had the opportunity to check out the book since it may have contained classified information.

And the rubes are sated. and I am more pissed at conservatives than I have ever been, if that is at all possible.

5. They were going to hold it until AFTER the commission expired.
But they were forced to extend the commissions end date to July 30.

11. That's my feeling too.
All these different moves were going on. They wanted to do whatever they could to keep the 9/11 findings from coming out at a time they thought would affect the election. I expect there were disagreements as to when, exactly, that would be.

They wanted to make sure Clarke's book stayed unpublished until they were ready... I'd bet the group that approved the book going to print thought they had the go-ahead because they thought the dates for the 9/11 hearings would shift.

Trying to tie the release of the book to Clarke's testimony (and paint him as opportunistic) is a weak, weak plan C for these guys; it's too obvious that they, not he, had their hands on the clock for that. They had numerous opportunities to do better on timing, I think, and botched it.

Good for us.

8. Their plan is smear him
and ignore the facts. It worked against Gore and since they control the media they feel they are in control of our minds. It has worked to a large degree. They never counted on Republicans that might be patriots.

10. The best thing to do is what others have said....make them pinpoint the
lies in Clarke's book, stick to the facts of the book, berate them when they try so smear his character, don't react to the smears and waste energy on them, never getting to the facts..

12. It takes an awful lot of energy to keep a lie going - not to mention
- not to mention multiple lies.

The truth is effortless, and needs no planning or coordination.

It was bound to happen.
