In the interest of unity I thought I'd toss a subject out there that you can all agree on.

22. It was all my fault, sorry.
Back in the fifties, the president asked me if it was a good idea to base our economy around a finite resource which makes us ridiculously dependent on foreign nations across the globe and would require the largest military in the world to guarantee our access to those resources. I said, "sure it is!", and that was that.

Sorry about all that. Hindsight is 20/20 and everything.

25. 3 months ago I sold my pick up and bought a 20 year ol Honda
...CRX HF - 45 MPG.

Yea, it sucks that I can't haul a cord of wood anymore - but, most of us have to make tough choices to not only save $$$, but keep that carbon-footprint as small as possible.

28. I didn't "decide" to rely on cars.
Poor and working class Americans aren't "whining" - they are struggling. And they didn't "decide" to rely on cars. They often don't have a choice.

33. Most of us don't live in San Francisco or New England.
We're not jammed up close together and mass transit is a joke.
We have to have cars. Even if we had adequate mass transit, it still wouldn't go everywhere you need to go, especially in a town that is 40 miles across.

If not, then technically you have choices, even if they're not very good choices.

Go ahead, take out all of your anger and frustration on me, instead of wasting it bickering about Hillary and Obama.

Sometimes you take any job you can find, when the options are slim to none and don't have the luxury of guaranteeing one that isn't "far away."

48. Why not just admit it?
Back when gas was cheap and plentiful people thought that it was best for their families to live out in the middle of nowhere.

The fact that their gas-hogging lifestyle had a negative impact on the rest of the world didn't matter to them.

Well . . .

Now the chickens are coming home to roost.

36. Let's talk about what REALLY pisses me off -- ethanol.
WTF? I can drink that, and people want to put it in their cars? When I'm paying $20 for a plain vodka & soda, you bet I'm going to be whining too. Heck, more than whining, I'll be organizing work parties to go out with sledgehammers and pickaxes and dismantle your precious asphalt highways.

43. What pisses me off is that..
..after the ethanol plant has gone to all the trouble to make pure, 200% hooch, the government makes them denature it with 15% gasoline to make it undrinkable.

37. The cost of filling up your tank isn't ultimately the worst part of high gas prices
The cost of growing, processing, and trucking food to the shelf is going to wind up hurting more. That, and the impact of high fuel costs on the economy in general.

41. My nephew works in a restaurant, and tells me...
.. that restaurants still routinely pay to have fryer grease taken away. Given that all one needs to convert a diesel vehicle to biodiesel are hotter glow plugs, a few easily obtained chemicals, a pump, and a filter -- I'd say people are giving away fuel if you're smart enough to find it.
