Speaking of unity, where's Gerald Ford?
Cable News Hairdos have spent the last two days
BASHING

Democrats' Unity Dinner, claiming that these guys "obviously don't like each other."

So, my question is:

Where's Gerald Ford and why isn't he campaigning for W?

Just asking.

2. That's my point.
Why isn't former Republican President Ford NOT showing his party unity by actively campaigning for W? Where's the love? Where's the unity?

They bash us and bash us, and no one ever asks why their former party stars aren't out stumping for them.

3. Because Lyndon B. Johnson was right about Ford.....
He said he played too many football games for Michigan without a helmet.

He also said that Ford could not walk and chew gum at the same time.

4. No, that's not what LBJ said.
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 10:16 AM by mobuto
LBJ said Ford was too dumb "to fart and chew gum at the same time."

I wonder what LBJ would have thought of his fellow Texan, the current President? ;-)

5. LBJ would be turning over in his grave
if he knew how the radio station in Austin that bears his name has been converted into a moutpiece for the far-right.

6. Why?
Is it still owned by the LBJ Corporation? If it is a mouthpiece for the far-right, why does Lady Bird allow that?

7. True... but is his biography they clean it up... so I complied
As far as LBJ and his feelings about W...I don't know.

He was a shrewd politician, and knew how to get what he wanted.

Johnson was more a politician than anything else, and would make deals with the most unlikely people so long as his agenda was forwarded.

He absolutely hated J Edgar Hoover and then appointed him Director for life!

He detested Bobby Kennedy and vice versa after he fired Bobby; but after Bobby was shot went well out of his way to watch out for the family.

He would probably agree with his foreign policy (he was a cold warrior and hated the French especially when the French pulled out of NATO) but domestically the fight would definitely be on...

8. And Bush isn't
I really can't think of two politicians less alike than LBJ and Bush.

He absolutely hated J Edgar Hoover and then appointed him Director for life!

Absolutely. He despised racism more than anything else, yet he had no problems pretending to be a racist when sucking up to campaign contributors. The guy was the greatest politician I know of.

He would probably agree with his foreign policy (he was a cold warrior and hated the French especially when the French pulled out of NATO) but domestically the fight would definitely be on...

I don't know about that. LBJ realized he screwed up in Vietnam.

11. He knew he screwed up and he stepped on the gas...
Troop levels increased every year under Johnson and did not start falling until Tricky Dick took office with his "secret plan"

13. Why do you think LBJ
refused to run for reelection in 1968? Why do you think he drank himself to death after leaving office? It took him awhile, but LBJ knew what he did.

14. Did you know he became a Catholic?
Started going to Catholic church in secret and took the sacraments just before he died. God rest his soul.....

12. You are right about Racism....
The Voters Rights Act was his greatest victory... Even when Sen Thurmond at that time a Democrat (now burning in Hell) led a one-man filibuster..

How did LBJ get it passed? He went to the Republicans... Southern Democrats refused to vote for it...definitely a low point in my party's history

Like Ronnie.
The only former Republican president that can still go out there is Bush Sr.
