The Environment Should be an Issue...
My Fellow DUers...

One of the biggest things I think our candidate has going for him is that he is possibly the strongest environmental candidate ever to run for the Presidency and as our oil prices rise the alternative energy routes must be taken more seriously. Bush wants to hide on a Senate vote where he accuses Kerry of raising gas prices 50 cents a gallon. Of course there is no mention that it happened to be attached to a bill that dealt with other issues entirely and that the tax was meant to try to curb some of the debt Bush has created.

The Environment is deteriorating at rates completely unseen before. Bush has appointed weak EPA officials and has rewritten their reports to reflect what the White House wants them to say. This is unheard of.

I ask you all to view the following flash movie. It was created by the Leonardo DiCaprio foundation so it is well produced, but please view it with all seriousness. We need to work to get in a leader such as John Kerry who will fight for our environment and ultimately for the future of our children and grandchildren.

But it doesn’t end there. The Environment is almost never a populist message. Casual Americans that find themselves too bored or too uninterested to pay attention to serious causes, or the far right leaning Fox News who have commentators call the Environment issue names to try to make it seem unimportant and trivial, have had no reason to pay attention to this cause.

On May 28th this will change. The same way that people began talking about Christ more in the mainstream people will talk about the Environment and Global Warming. The movie is called “The Day After Tomorrow” and the trailers will bring people in if not for the issue itself, certainly it will bring people in for the special effects.

Watch the trailer, explore the flash site for yourself.

It will turn Global Warming into a major issue that gets talked about for a couple of months, turning the Media into catalysts of the subject if only to be hip and with current hot topics. The Bush Administration has been the most reckless administration in the history of our country and their environmental rollbacks for major corporations have done irreparable harm to our planet. It’s an issue we would be hard pressed to turn onto Bush on our own and to get a lot of traction with but this movie could change that. The way Twister had Storm Chasers all over newscasts and Armageddon had Asteroid news all over the place, global warming will be en vogue.

It’s time to start thinking of Bush’s Environmental Record as a weapon to use against him (I prefer it as a blunt object myself, but I digress).

Support the movie on May 28th and help give the Media the message: Our Environment is an Issue.

I already sent a letter detailing the advantages of this film to the campaign to Kerry Spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. Hopefully the Kerry camp will take this as an important opportunity to turn the debate in our favor.

Let’s see Bush run from this.

1. Just tonight they had a republican harpy on tv ...
urging drilling the ANWR. These bastards won't be happy until the entire planet is ruined. I am frustrated by the lack of concern for the environment. I don't know if the issue will swing many voters. The people are just too ignorant of the importance of environmental issues. Many don't give a damn about something that willl happen after they are dead. There is too little concern for future generations. I don't know how you teach that to people. If they are so damn short-sighted that they don't care about the future - what can we do?

2. Thanks. Hadn't heard of this movie before.
The trailer looks great and yes, Kerry should talk it up when it comes closer and then after it comes out. Great idea.

6. Absolutely!
I don't know why Al Gore didn't make the central issue of his political career an issue in his campaign. If people are informed, they will respond. People care about their health and survival, and that of their children --
