Words DO Matter...Barack Obama was being totally honest. He doesn't...Huffington Post

Huffington Post

February 27, 2008

Here's the difference. Courtesy of Merriam.

Denounce - to pronounce especially publicly to be blameworthy or evil
Reject - to refuse to accept, consider, submit to, take for some purpose, or use

Reject - to refuse to accept, consider, submit to, take for some purpose, or use

If you were President, it could be the difference between just condemning the actions of a nation or moving aggressively and cutting off trade or diplomatic ties with that nation.

But this is an attack piece directed at Obama.

It's basically calling him ignorant for saying there was no difference between the two words, making a snarky reference to Obama's "just words" speech, and then completely blowing the whole thing up to the absurd level of saying that "If you were President, it could be the difference between just condemning the actions of a nation or moving aggressively and cutting off trade or diplomatic ties with that nation."

In other words, Martin Lewis is being a huge dick head. It's nice that he can sit back, put his feet up and pull up the two words on his little dictionary, compare and contrast them and do his little snark attack. Reject, Denounce... You denounce something by saying you reject it. How often do you hear a politician say "I denounce this"? It's purely a style thing and ridiculous for anyone to be making an issue out of it.

6. Thanks FS But I Got It
I simply meant that compared to "putting food on one's family" or "fish and people can coexist" etc., Obama's "slip" would hardly be noteworthy.

2. I think this is right on the money. Pundits, posters can be very loose
with their words. They can just shrug their shoulders. But at Clinton's and Obama's level, it makes a difference.

Presidents have to be able to make such distinctions.

Will the media really call him on it? No, they would rather make fun of Clinton's distinction as being overly picky.

5. so then is it fair to say
Obama denounced Saddam
Hillary rejected Saddam

The difference between declaring that Saddam is a thug, like Obama did, or declaring we should attack Saddam, like Hillary did.

I'll take denouncement for $200 please, Alex.
