Terry McAuliffe Says an Obama/Hillary Ticket "Sure Is" Possible
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 05:16 PM by From The Left
The national chairman of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign says she could end up on the same ticket with rival Barack Obama.

Terry McAuliffe told a business group in Madison today it “sure is” possible the former first lady and the Illinois senator could become running mates.

He says that team would create excitement in the country heading into the general election.

McAuliffe is trying to GIN UP a clamor for HRC to be on the ticket - and it AIN'T gonna happen. Obama isn't going to tap her and ruin HIS opportunity.

17. Terry, your candidate BLEW IT
If she had stayed conciliatory after the last debate, made the voters understand she wanted to work together as Democrats in November even if that meant putting her ambitions behind her, then there might have been a chance.

There is no chance now that she has gone negative this last week.

37. Recognizing political reality is all.
You see dark clouds and lighting in the distance, and you say a storm is coming - does not mean you are rooting for the storm to come, you are just recognizing reality.

I am actually rooting for Hillary to win in 08. Should it be Obama, I see a big loss in November. Not saying it is impossible for him to win, but by the time the repukes are done with him, I see a major loss. Having said all that, I am not ashamed to say that if he does win in November, it will be without my vote.

114. It is my HOPE that all you ppl talking about how you won't vote for the dem nominee be gone!
B/c that will create UNITY among us. Not my fault you want to be a traitor to your own party. I'll NEVER vote repug and I'll ALWAYS support the DEM nominee even if they weren't my first choice. John Kerry wasn't my choice in 2004, but you better believe I fucking supported him/donated to him every week/voted for him. WHY? B/c hes a dem thats why and I'm a dem!

SECOND, I have been here since 2003 but I was so crushed Kerry lost in '04 that I didn't come back and I lost my password, so don't think you know me. I can only judge you by your words and your words that you won't vote for our dem nominee if hes Obama are traitorous and vicious and they will not be appreciated here.

Third, if you want to say I hate Hillary, don't even bother, I've voted for her before b/c again shes a dem! and thats what dems do.

The ONLY way that MCAuliffe or any other DLC woo woo will get near this campaign is if they agree that the DLC's idea of how to run a campaign is not germane in any way to this campaign, and that the issues of anti-terrorism and Al Quaeda are NOT automatically the province of the other side, and that under NO circumstances will anyone try to "appeal to the swing voter" by watering down the Democratic Core values.

because THAT strategy has a proven record: one of loss. ( See Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale et al)

33. rational thinking, folks...
Now, think of it. The Democratic party is backed into a corner.

They have two candidates who have split the party. They need both to beat McCain. Obama has more popular appeal right now. They will put him in as Prez and Hil as VP. They will win the election and then something could conceivably happen to Obama (remember Vince Foster, Bob Stevens, et.al) if they pulled a "Reagan" on him like the Bushes did to Ronald (remember the dining with Neil Bush story) and Hillary would assume her post in late 2012 and she would declare martial law, suspend the Constitution, and cancel the next election and then the NWO would begin and Bill and Arnold would battle it out for Prez of the World---you know, that UN thing they want. All the Huckabee's will begin praying and line up for their Kool-Aid if they aren't one of the 13 Bloodlines. BTW, when is the Space Station supposed to be finished? Is there enough room on the Mothership for me, too? I'm a Van Duyn and we had hid our name (French for Fontaine) from Fritz for a long, long time now......I want my ticket, please, so if you are a Freeper, please let them know.

Cheers, folks.

She would be a drag on the ticket by cutting into his support among independents and moderate Republicans. We absolutely need some of that vote to pick up the necessary "purple" states to win.

54. If The Party Is Smart, That's EXACTLY What They Should Do.
I don't care how anyone feels about each candidate one way or the other. I say with as much factual conviction as I could possibly muster, that a ticket with them both would be a GUARANTEED VICTORY. I can't remember a time in my life I've ever been able to say that, and there's never been a time in politics where we more NEEDED to be able to say that. Guaranteed victory. I hope the party is smart enough to know that, and to try and do everything within their power to make it happen.

67. Bzzzzzzztttttt. Wrong Answer.
Guaranteed victory. Guaranteed.

I don't expect some on the Obama side to agree. I'm more than acclimated to their points of view. I'm talking about the REAL world here. Real people. Regular everyday voters. Ya know, the masses and stuff. This combination would create a buzz of heights politics has never seen, and the momentum and excitement created from it would be unstoppable. McCain and whoever wouldn't stand a chance.

Every day I hear more and more regular every day voters tell me how much they'd love to see that ticket. Every day. Guaranteed victory.

70. I agree completely & have seen this suggested all over the net, as well as real people talking. Also
.....I believe we would win the WH the next 2 terms, have an incumbent VP who could win in 2016, 2020 with another great VP ready to win in 2024. The potential to win it and keep it for years is upon us, but our candidates & party have not put forth a plan to actually be able to to stay in long enough to make a real difference.

The repukes started thinking about this when Nix*on was in office, maybe earlier. Who they would run in every contest for years. They just didn't have the talent that we do in our party......also Carter and B.Clinton surprised them and they misunderestimated jr so bad.

Early on, I had hoped one of the older candidates & one of the younger would come together with this as their goal. The one time we could have taken the reins and kept them due to jr, his cabinet & the g*p being in the toilet with the country and the world.

I think we've missed the boat.......I hope not.

75. Guaranteed Victory.
Guaranteed. NO other combination would create that buzz. NO other combination would be as unstoppable. NO other combination would be more popular with everyday voters. John McCain and yet to be named wouldn't know what hit them.

Already, the buzz has started from so many everyday people wanting this to be what happens. Tell me, what buzz has there been about ANY other combination (with exception to Gore)? Oh, that's right; NONE.

81. All this thread does is show how out of touch DU is with
the opinions of the real world. Obama/Clinton is a very real possibility and a lot of people, who do not follow politics like rabid wolves on a messageboard that is 75% pro Obama, are very excited about the idea of this ticket happening. The applause at the simple mention of it during their first one on one debate said a lot. I hear people in the real world hype this ticket, and talk about this ticket. Hillary will have broken records in the amount of support she has as the first runner up to the nomination. They will be between a rock and a hard place if they decide not to include her on the ticket...

... and if she is not on the ticket they will still need her to campaign heavily for Obama during the GE.

That may not be what people on DU want to hear, but it is the reality.

The sad part is, probably 50% of the people on here know it, they just... deep down... refuse to admit it. However, that is fine and does not bother me. That is merely a trial between you and your mirror.

107. Clinton will not be on the ticket, even as VP nominee
First, I think Terry M is probably talking about Clinton being at the top of the ticket, not as a VP candidate. I haven't (nor will I) read the article, but that's my guess.

Second, in terms of "real world opinions" Obama supporters would not support making Clinton a VP candidate. Her nasty divisive attacks are exactly why this isn't posssible.

I see the potential argument that Hill would add voters to the Oba,ma ticket...

But then again, how many of Hill's hardcore supporters would even touch McCain. or abstain from voting?

I think that Obama will have female votes with no problem. He can get a veep who brings NASCAR hawks closer...

Like Wayne Palmer did on '24', he can get a military-cred guy, or someone with white hair, or both.

maybe Dodd gets the nod.
