Stephen F. Hayes considers the perception of Reagan within his party, the media, and the electorate and wonders if the GOP may not be making the mistake in underestimating Obama that the Democrats (and I) did in 1980 when he was dismissed as a clownish figure without any serious policy platform.

1. I think it's easy to underestimate somebody without a

whole lot of history to go on. Obama has not been a major public figure for a very long time and the reichwing will find it difficult to pin him down with a lot of major gaffes.

So far the only stain that they seem to be able to use is the Rezco affair which I don't see being a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.

This has left them to making fun of his name and if that's all they've got they are not only underestimating him, I think they are in for a major spanking this November.
