Today's Hillary: Empathy. "I got a little hot there the other day in Cincinnati...."
Today... empathy Posted: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 2:28 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under: 2008, Clinton
From NBC’s Ron Allen

LORAIN, Ohio -- Hillary Clinton is at a town hall here, listening to an elderly man vent about financial problems; he’s either losing or lost his house -- he was hard to understand because of an accent. It was a very odd moment, with Clinton standing just a few feet from him. It was a bit tense because he was so emotional. Clinton accepted an envelope from him and promised to help. She has two residents on stage with her who are facing foreclosures; they told their stories to the crowd.

The only jab at Obama: "Hope is not a plan...," in her opening her remarks.

Today, it was Hillary Clinton full of compassion and empathy for working people facing foreclosure, mountains of school loans, and taxes.

After anger, sarcasm, today it was empathy. At one point she said, "I got a little hot there the other day in Cincinnati...." and says she was really mad, because Obama was sending YOU false, misleading and discredited information.

No man would have been able to get away with that.

Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 04:33 PM by qanda
I cringe when it's time for the mail to come because I just wonder what new bill is going to be there. Just the basic neccessities are strangling us financially. I just wish the political games would stop and someone would really start caring about what's happening out here.

I think that line contradicts Hillary supporters' claim that her actions have all been calm and controlled. I don't understand why she would admit that. Unless she wants to have a more human appeal, but I really don't think that works in her favor either.

22. I don't think that really helps her out.
I understand being angry, especially if you feel lies are being spread about you at such a critical point, but it really just adds fuel to the fire with all those claims that she won't be able to handle herself. Just look at another reply in this thread "Sorry I bombed Iran, I just got a little hot in the collar because..."

26. I objected to the bomb Iran statement as well.
And frankly, I do want a president who gets angry when there is reason to be angry. She didnn't lose control, she just expressed some outrage at what she felt was an injustice.

37. Reason to be angry? You've got to be kidding. She would spend the entire general campaign and her
four-year presidency spouting steam out her ears if she blows her top at a typical campaign mailer. Hillary has done much worse in this campaign, including winning NH by a false and malicious mailer, and she knows it.

With her rant, she blew what little chance she had at the presidency. And Good Hillary reappearing today can't undo the damage.

41. Ehhh..
I don't know about that. I'm still undecided but do lean more towards Obama. I don't think having someone express anger and outrage like that over something that really is NOT that big (considering she's used similar tactics as well) is all that appealing to me.

Honestly, I think she shouldn't have said what she did at the end of the Texas debate about being honored to run with Obama only to do a 180 the next day. It ended up seeming too much like a tactic to get people to see the human side of her, which I admittedly did and ended up with a new found respect for her, only to be turned off by her actions the next day.

I don't think it made her look out of control.
Her hand gestures looked COMPLETELY practiced. I think she let her anger get the best of her because she planned on saying that and using those hand motions, but I think she was far from out of control.

That quote was honestly just another thing that makes her seem like a big flip-flopper.

28. Just further signs that her campaign is in a death spiral
This lack of message control, not just from her but from her campaign representatives (see the Dana Milbank article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/25/AR2008022502501.html) are sure signs that she's flailing about, and just trying to survive until next Tuesday when she can (hopefully) drop out gracefully.

If she can't take the strain of a very mild campaign, we don't need to find out how she would hold up under the pressures of the presidency.
