Poll question: Where does Hillary fall on NAFTA?

And to be honest, I am not sure I know where Obama has been on NAFTA either. He has fought against NAFTA but says he is for free trade. Someone explain that to me please?

9. Both of them fall in the same place:
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 02:22 PM by Occam Bandage
Recognizing that protectionism is a moribund philosophy, understanding that the United States must adapt to the globalized economy or face economic implosion, and at the same time recognizing that such a shift will result in the gutting of American manufacturing, and therefore both are looking at how America can continue to remain competitive in the world market while at the same time looking to avoid pulling the rug out from under the working class. They believe NAFTA was necessary in some regards, was advantageous in some regards, and had profound negative repercussions in some regards.

Both are fundamentally in recognition that the global economy cannot be shut out at the border, and yet both are fundamentally in recognition that it is unethical and counterproductive to allow the American infrastructure and labor market to flee the country without leaving anything in its place.

Anything they say on NAFTA is just positioning themselves around this framework.

11. Thank you
It's a complicated issue that requires complicated solutions. I think both Obama and Clinton probably both have good ideas though it's a very difficult and complicated issue!

13. I had to vote "Other" because I don't think SHE even knows
Where she stands.

I honestly don't think she "knows in her guts" how she stands on many issues.

She seems to just want to figure out what is popular. So I think she HONESTLY has NO STANCE
on NAFTA - because she thinks the wind could "blow the other way"
